TBI car steering box
I know this isn't technically a TBI question, but you guys on this baord are the experts on RS TBI cars, and I got no help on the suspension board, or the search function.
My 91 RS is in desperate need of a new steering box. When I go to Orielly they list 2 boxes for the 5.0 cars and the same two boxes for teh 5.7 cars.
The only difference is that one box says "with softride suspension" and one says "without."
I know that tire size affected the original box, but these don't mention tire size. i have 16's.
Anybody got some wisdom to share?

Re: TBI car steering box
My 89 RS (305 TBI) came with the soft ride suspension RPO and still had the stock 15" wheels when I bought it. It also had really small sway bars - 30mm front & 18mm rear IIRC.

Re: TBI car steering box
FE1 is the RPO code for soft ride suspension. If you still have the RPO sticker in your car, it should be either in the center console, or in the storage compartment at the left rear in the cargo area.
I found all of GM's RPO codes on this site, and listed some suspension codes
http://www.c2e.info/rpocodes/
FE1 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, SOFT RIDE
FE2 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, RIDE HANDLING
FE3 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, SPORT
FE5 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, RIDE l HANDLING ---- DELETE
FE7 : SUSPENSION SYSTEM, FRT & RR HD, VAR 3
FE8 : RADIAL TUNED SUSPENSION

Re: TBI car steering box
Thanks, sean. Looks from the pic like you got the hood painted. Can't wait to see how the cars coming together.

Sean, have you messed with these steering boxes before? Seems like it should be pretty straight forward. think I'll tackle it next weekend. You know of anything to beware of?
