Re: 1.6 roller rocker installation

i'm sure those are good . do you need them for a truck ? thats up to you . anyway back to my thought . maybe this can save you some bux . i was checking prices on comp cams roller tip rockers , pn# 1416-16 . northernautoparts $145.99 , advanceautoparts $229.99 , ( an old summit catalog ) $285.95 . i have bought stuff before from northernautoparts before and always saved some bux . same brand name parts , better prices . just my thoughts , we all need to save money where we can . good luck .

Be prepared to open up the push rod holes with a 3/8 drill bit for clearance.
If your real careful it can be done without pulling the heads.

No. That's the nature of the 1.6 ratio; the pushrod is moved closer to the rocker fulcrum.

Re: 1.6 roller rocker installation

Can I ask a real quick question: What do 1.6 roller rockers net you over stock? I'm not asking about power gains, I'm asking about how they affect performance.

With a stock cam that is severly undersized for the engine, like the peanut cam, they are worthwhile. Probably at least a tenth in the 1/4 mile and 1+ mph, equating to about 10 hp. The torque/hp boost happens in the mid and upper rpm range, so you won't fell it SOTP.
If you're already running the optimum camshaft, they won't do anything for you.

Re: 1.6 roller rocker installation

Thanks.

Does that mean that 1.6 roller rockers allow the camshaft to apply more lift so the valves can open more?

Re: 1.6 roller rocker installation

Would switching to 1.6 rockers affect an engine's ability to pass emissions testing? I'm about to install a Smeding Performance 383 with a mild cam and 1.5 rockers that's designed to be California legal. I know it's capable of more than it's rated 310 hp but don't want step over the line on emissions.

Specs are: Valve lift .414 / .428
Duration: 261/263
Duration at .050" 194 / 198
Lobe center: 111
Ground 5 degrees advanced

Re: 1.6 roller rocker installation

OMG! That almost sounds like a stock L31 cam in a 383!
What a shame. You'll get no more performance out of that 383 than a bone stock L31 Vortec engine.
If you're already stuck with that engine, then yes by all means, install some 1.6 rockers on it, and of course make sure you have the correct springs and retainers to permit the extra lift. It will have no problems passing CA emissions.
