He is talking in code. remember Barbra Bilingsley in Airplane?
From Airplane! (1980)
Randy: Can I get you something?
Second Jive Dude: 'S'**** butter layin' me to da' BONE! Jackin' me up... tight me!
Randy: I'm sorry, I don't understand.
First Jive Dude: Cutty say 'e can't HANG!
Jive Lady: Oh stewardess! I speak jive.
Randy: Oh, good.
Jive Lady: He said that he's in great pain and he wants to know if you can help him.
Randy: All right. Would you tell him to just relax and I'll be back as soon as I can with some medicine?
Jive Lady: Jus' hang loose, blood. She gonna catch ya up on da' rebound on da' med side.
Second Jive Dude: What it is, big mama? My mama no raise no dummies. I dug her rap!

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
Hi, I have the following problem with my car, 305TBI.
As I drive the car stops suddenly, a light "Serive Engine Soon" lits and the steering wheel gets locked. The other problem I have is when I change into Reverse Shift the car engine stops and vice versa when I go from Reverse Shift to 1st Shift the engine stops again. Any ideas of what might be causing the problem? The Gearbox is automatic.

you need to check for vacuum leaks. have you recently performed a tune up? If not it might be time. remember to set the base timing.

as for the Service Engine Soon light, you can check for trouble codes but i'm not sure if this is understandable for you:
https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes (btw it's pin 5 and 6 you need to short)
if you can't understand, i'll try explaining it to you

Sounds like you might have some tranny issues. I would re-post this in the transmission/drivetrain section, you will get more help there.

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
ok the check engine light is coming on when the car is stopped is normal. because when the ignition is on and car not running the check engine light is on. Now your problem sounds to me like a transmission lockup control problem.

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
If your code 12 is same as my code 12(5550 ECU) then your ECU is not seeing DRP. Service manual says can happen when aldl is grounded ign on engine off. OR determine why the distributor is not communicationg with ECU.
Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
Ok Guys Tomorow I will replace all hoses ... But i have one more question, What is Idle RPM normaln when car @ Parking and @ Drive ? My is 550 i think that`s not normal ?

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
Code 12 has two meanings, depending on whether you're checking your codes with the engine off or with the engine on.
"Normally," codes are checked with the engine off and the key in the on position, so I'm guessing that's how you're checking it. And in that case, it's normal to get code 12. It should always show-up. It simply lets you know the diagnostic system is working. Any other stored codes will follow code 12. But if 12 is the only code you're getting, over-and-over, and no other codes follow it, then code 12 is not a probem, and there are no other trouble codes stored. So your problem probably isn't diagnostically-related.
And when you're light comes on when the engine dies, that's not a problem either, that's normal, as someone already mentioned. And your code 12 is not a result of that.
But if you're checking for codes with the engine running, and you get code 12, then yes, it's distributor/ECM related problem, which could be just a connection problem at the distributor.

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
Thank you MATE ... I Checked codes when my engine is off ... How i can check codes when engine are running , i gues its similary metod when engine off ? And do you know what is Normal RPM for 305 TBI on Parking Gear and Drive Gear ?
Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
I say lowest RPM car will idle well at in gear. Idle typically is set by IAC steps in .bin. I did it differently and zeroed out idle IAC steps and used the throttle stop screw. My datalog will show malf codes while engine running. Hopefully there are none. I check every datalog.

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
Ok, so you're checking it with the engine off, and that's the normal way to do it. And code 12 is the only code you're getting, and that's also normal(and good). That means your diagnostic system is working properly. And no other codes means there are no problems that are diagnostically-related.
It's probably a transmission problem, like other people have mentioned.
But to check for codes with the engine running, FIRST you start the engine, and SECOND you connect your jumper to the aldl port. Don't connect before starting the engine. Then just read the flashes like you would normally read them.
I'm not exactly sure what the rpms should be at idle. Mine tends to run around 600-700, and that seems ok.

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
what is the difference between the codes that are displayed with engine off vs. when engine is running!?
you can find the trouble codes for the 5.0 TBI here:

Re: Very Very Strange Problem with my 305 TBI Trans Am
You can't flash the codes with the engine running. What the ECM is doing is reporting whether the O2 sensor is reading rich or lean.
While in drive an idle speed of 550 RPM is correct. In park/neutral it is common for the idle speed to increase a little.
