Did the tbi mods now it's running like crap:(

Well my mods are in the sig. The problem.
I had the tbi spacer and injector spacer mod already done the car ran jjust how it was suppose to. So one day I got the idea to do the throttle shafts and shape the bore ridges. I put the tbi back on cranked the car the idle sucks. When I put the car in gear it holds rpm but it bucks like I have a huge cam or something. When I floor it it runs fine or just driving, it's just the idle thats all jacked up. I checked my vacuum lines and put a new iat sensor in but it didnt help. Well I hope yall can help me. Thanks Dave.

Sounds kind of like a vacuum leak. Did you use all new gaskets what you put it back together?

By "doing the throttle shafts" you mean you re-bushed the shafts? Could cause a vacuum leak if this was done improperly.

Are both injectors shooting fuel? At least twice since I've had my car, I'm put the TBI back together and didn't stick the connector on one of the injectors all the way and didn't notice fuel only coming out of one injector. It would actually start up and drive around like that but it would run like crap.

Re: Did the tbi mods now it's running like crap:(

I didn't replace with new gaskets, the tbi gasket looked fine I replaced it before when I did the tbi spacer. The gasket where the air cleaner sits on the tbi is bad I'll change it. The last time I checked when I put it back on both injectors were firing but I'll unplug and plug back up and see what happens and I'm going to check all my vacuum lines again. If this doesn't work I wonder if I should datalog my computer and see if it's messed up from doing it. Oh, by the throttle shafts I mean shaving them down flat so theres not a big hump like it shows to do in the ultimate tbi threads. Thanks for your help I'll post back around lunch and post what's up.

Well I had a vacuum leak and I know theres probably more vacuum lines that need to be replaced so i'm gonna do that. It idles so much better but theres still a little buck so i'm gonna replace all the ones that are in need of it. Thanks Dave

That's got to suck! Could you burn out before the mods? If you lost alot of power you need to check your injectors. Make sure their spraying corectly. I still had power mine just idled like crap a found about a 6 inch crack in the vacuum hose that runs into the back of the manifold from the cruis control ball thing. It idles so much better now an I bet that since my vaccum was so jacked up it probably had the computer having fits. I checked your website out. Do you have Headers and exhaust or just the open element and the modded tbi. If not that would be your next big upgrade. It and the 1.6 roller rockers made a huge difference for mine. Oh and I'm puttin some 3.42 in next week I let you know how that goes, good luck finding the problem.

Re: Did the tbi mods now it's running like crap:(

have no problem driving the car, idles fine, i use to be able to lay rubber all the way into second gear from a stop. I have 4 injectors, tried them all,

Everything is good until i smash the gas , rpms will slowly start going up and you can feel the engine like getting quieter and feels like its gonna pop.

then it shifts, and shifts super hard, like it never did before.

If i had to shoot for a 0.-60 time before it probably be around 7 seconds
now its probably 14 at leest.

I have my own thread "tbi woes" on this feel free to chime in

Man, don't feel bad, my car does THE EXACT same thing. Was carb'd improperly, idled high in P and N, and rough in drive. But I tell you what, if I came to a stop or roll, cranked the wheel and gunned it, it would screech all the way to second gear. So then a shop swapped it back to TBI, and it won't even spin the tires. It drives good, but when you get on it, it just feels like the tranny slips all the way through first gear, slams you back in your seat getting into second, and then hardly pulls again. And I can't start the thing unless the timing cable is unplugged. It will just idle really lumpy and die otherwise. Possibly a bad distributor??? 0-60 in about 14 seconds =(

Re: Did the tbi mods now it's running like crap:(

Im leaning toward bad fuel pump. I can hear it sucking in plenty of air at WOT but i dont smell fuel like i normaly use to.

It must have enough umpfh left to get enough psi to hold a decent idle for me

now it takes me like 10 seconds to get to twenty and anything over 1500 rpm is a joke
