Heads/Cam

whats a good head/cam setup for my L03? I would like the cam to be kinda lopey, if its possable. I dont want to swap to a 350 or higher just yet. just looking for some stuff to do while I still have the engine.

Re: Heads/Cam

you could get a set of LB9 heads (305 TPI) for fairly cheap, rebuild them. do a port job, and throw them on, and that would help the top end quite a bit most guys on here swap an LT1 cam in. also, you should swap a better intake or the heads and cam will be almost worthless, same goes for headers and an exhaust. thats what I planned to do to my L03, but now I think I'l just swap a 350, by the time you get to the heads you could have just pulled the whole motor.

good luck-

Eric

The LB9 heads are almost identical to the L98 heads, except the have smaller combustion chambers and smaller valves, and I don't see way not on the hotcam, it'll prob be a pain to tune, Idk though

Re: Heads/Cam

I know nothing about this stuff but here is my understanding

LT4 Hot Cam --- 218@ .525/ 228@ .525 (1.6RR)--- 112 LSA --- 1800-5800 RPM

the lift from what I read on LB9 heads IS around .470, so these heads will not work..........

Im most likley completely wrong tho, I really know very little about this stuff

They will work but only after a trip to the machine shop to have them modified to accept higher lift cams. All of these mods will make your car slower without ECM tuning. You will have to learn how to burn your own chips. Now is a good time to start while your motor is stock. You can learn now and easily go back to stock if you get goofed. You will see what changes what and can always go back to a perfect stock tune with the stock set-up. It is much harder to tune when you add a bunch of parts and then try to figure it out. Take a look at the stickies at the top of this forum for more info on getting started.

Re: Heads/Cam

Dart make a smaller volume iron (eagle) head that may work fine on a 305. 49cc. A thicker head gasket could be used. $650 for the pair but base casting. If I was doing a performance build up on budget I would consider those

vortec 305 lightning eq heads and the comp tbi cam, you have to get a vortec intake if you go with those heads.
