I think my car is running rich, If I floor it from a standing stop it Its very hesitant and when i suddenly let off the gas it just barely stays running. What could the problem be and how do I fix it? Also when i floor it and it wants to stall I smell alot of gas

 

The throttle shafts are notorious for wear on the CFI units causing the problems you are describing. Also has ayone tried to adjust the linkage between the TBI's? But to back up a little have you done the basics of new fuel filter , plugs , cap/rotor/wires? I know this may be a simple answer but it's over looked a lot. I will have to look on my other computor for some helpful links on the CFI system - they have been with mine.

 

Are there throttle shaft bushing kits available? A rebuild kit?

Is the check engine light on when you have these problems? If not, are you sure the bulb is good?

One other thing you can visually check is all the vacuum lines for cracking or leaks. The TBI system does not like vacuum leaks.

Since you smell gas when you floor it, you might want to try the following to see if you observe anything wrong with either throttle body.

Get the engine warmed up to normal operating temperature and turn it off. Make sure the parking brake is engaged and that you block the rear wheels, on the front side. Now take off the air cleaner cover, the air filters and the bottom of the air filter. This will give you a good view of both throttle bodies.

Now start the engine up and go back to in front. The throttle linkage is at the back side of the rear TBI, in between both of them. Using the linkage, rev the engine up and observe the operation of the throttle plates and the spray pattern of the fuel injectors. I am wondering if one of the throttle plates is not opening when you mash it. Be careful here, becuse if you get fuel on the hot block, it might ignite. That would not be good for you or the car. It might also be a good idea to have a good fire extingsher on hand ready to use.

Yes,

Sorry guys summer is crazy busy.... But I found the hesitation at least. It was gunk on th enew plug I installed. Those plugs are double tuff to change. Well I aparently scraped some gunk off putting the new one in. Cleaned it and it runs AWESOME. Yes it needs a few minor things cuz heck it's not new but it made all the difference in the world.
Now if I can figure out the stalling thing. Might still be in the tank but I will update once I get back to it.
