Removing dual plane divider

So I want to run a single plane manifold, because I think that will result in better, more even fueling of the engine. Trouble is that all the single plane manifolds on the market have runners that are way to big for what I want to do (~300hp).

So I'm thinking of getting something like a Edelbrock Performer EPS manifold and cutting out the center divider. I understand that this will results in reduced throttle crispness down low, but I think it will gain power up top and have even fuel distribution. I think the small runners will also keep the port velocity good.

Has anyone done this before and what are your thoughts on the matter?

Re: Removing dual plane divider

dont cut it down all the way, cut a "U" out of it, and be sure to radius all the edges of your cuts smooth, don't cut all the way down to the upper deck either.

My stock Edel RPM air gap intake has this feature. Only I am running carb.

Ok, but what's the reasoning on this? Why not all the way?

Re: Removing dual plane divider

the septum(divider) helps to direct the air, if you cut it all the way down, you start to lose velocity and create turbulance.

So how much should one cut it down?

Re: Removing dual plane divider

A different question?

I recall that every DRP one of two injectors fire in synch mode. Injectors are positioned so that one is over one of two banks of inlet runners at plenum. would not it be beneficial if the injector that fires is the one that is over one of the banks of inlet runners that has the intake valve opening?

Or does it not matter as it is a wet system?

I would probably only cut it 1/2 - 3/4 of an inch down, and then run a TBI to squarebore adapter that has an open bottom.

Re: Removing dual plane divider

how much of a difference does it make going from a stock to aftermarket carbed manifold?? is it a pretty decent hp gain?

just about anything is better than the stock manifold, unfortunately, I don't have real numbers to support that. soon hopefully.
