Gas tank

I'm having a horrible time trying to get the damn fuel tank out of my 91 camaro RS. I've tried to take it out with the rear axle almost out but it's impossible. I'm about to cut the fill tube offf the tank. Any tips on how to rake it out? It's nasty in there and I need to take it out

Re: Gas tank

Whatever you do don't cut the fill tube. It has a vent set up in it for when the tank is being filled.

Open the gas door and remove the plastic shrouding. This is the piece that is around the fill tube.

Also remove the gas cap.

You will need to roll the tank forward a bit and then it drops right out.

Re: Gas tank

I just did my tank a few weeks ago and it wouldn't come out for me. Worked it every way possible from underneath and no dice. Had a second person look at where it was catching and all he did was push down on the filler neck ever so slightly so it would clear the flange on it and it popped right out for us. That second set of eyes was invaluable.
