converting from ccc q-jet to tbi

im looking into doing a tbi converstion and i was curious as to what i need to do for the wiring. is it as simple as unplugging the carb's wiring harness/ computer and plugging in the new harness or am i going to have to compare wiring diagrams and create a hybrid harness?

Get complete TBI harness with a matching ECM - it will be easier in a long run.

im getting everything from a buddy's car. the tank w/ fuel pump, intake, tbi unit, harness, ecm, all sensors necessary, even the steel fuel lines, and anything else im forgetting. thats why im asking if the harness will just plug in or if i need to do a bit of splicing or full on splicing. my camaro is an 87. the camaro the fuel injection is coming from is a 92. no matter what its getting done. for 150 bucks you just cant pass it up when you wanna get away from carbs. i just wanna know how bald im going to be in the end.

btw i do have expirience rewiring for fuel injection from carb before. just not with gm.

Do not forget dizzy. Under hood 92 harness will be a straight forward drop in. Which trany do you have -(700R4 or 5M) and which trany donor car has?

You may need to do some wiring under dash:

1) Power to injectors from fuse block (must be hot when ignition key is in run and cranking position)
2) ALDL connector I/O - get connector from donor.
3) P/N switch (I do not know if CCC ECM used P/N to compensate idle)
4) Brake switch for TCC control
5) SES light
6) AC requested signal from dash.

I think that's about it...

Hmmm - I do not know right of hand if 87 used electronic speedometer ( or did it use mechanical cable driven unit) with 2000 ppm output to ECM. You may want to check how the VSS signal (if there is one) is fed into CCC ECM. It would be nice to have CCC ECM wiring diagram! Otherwise, the easiest way to get VSS signal to TBI ECM is to install inline 2000 ppm VSS from JTR. This way you can leave your 87 dash undisturbed and it is a simple one wire connection to ECM pin A10 with second wire tied to ground.

Re: converting from ccc q-jet to tbi

RF, the '87 Camaro should have the optical pickup on the back of the speedometer. This will provide the proper 2K PPM to the TBI ECM. 99% of the time it will be a brown wire from the optical buffer to the ECM.

RBob.

Thanks RBob - I just did not know ( and I am proud to say that it happens from time to time). Like Rbob said run brown wire from spedo optical buffer directly to ECM A10. VSS issue closed.
