swap 7747 to a 7060

swap 7747 to a 7060(?)

would it be simple as plugging in the new where the old was?

can i swap chips from one to the other?

i bought a 454 from a 1993 K2500 and am installing it into my 1989 K2500 to replace the 350. I also got the wiring harness and computer. I saw that the plugs for the computers are the same. I think that it may be too much to assume that it will be a simple plug and play? the 454 is going to be stock, i just want it to run right. any thoughts?

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

16147060 was used by GM only in 1992(93?) in the heavy duty trucks. The 1227747 is an early C3 ECM used in TBI trucks and vans and 16147060 is a later P4 PCM designed to control both engine and electronically controlled transmissions (60e, 80e). Later versions of P4 PCM 16196395 and 16197427 were used by GM in 1994-1995 in the light and heavy duty trucks ($0D mask) and can be reprogrammed to handle manual and early non electronic transmissions. It is not a direct swap - some pin swapping, and EEPROM reprogramming will be required. You can find more information here:

how would it run if i just swapped the pins out without burning a new chip?

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

FWIW you have a good chance to get it running. Keep in mind that P4 PCM was designed to handle both engine and transmission as a powertrain unit. In your original post you did not indicate if you have donor transmission from '93 truck. Now if you do have electronic trany (60e or 80e) that was sitting behind 454 I would simply transfer engine/trany/harness/PCM as a unit. If this is not the case a bit of pin swapping on the original 1227747 harness will be required to match PCM I/O in addition to reprogramming 16147060 EPROM to disable e-trany functionality. As a guide I would use 16197427 swap sticky, compare its pinouts to 16147060 pinouts and go from there. I am going to venture a guess that pin I/Os used by the the two PCM are very similar, with few minor differences. If you have access to 91-93 FSM that would make job easier, but you have to do the side by side compare. You job is 50% done since you have 16197427 I/O readily available.
As luck would have it ($85) mask used in 91 - 93 C/K Truck, Van, 5.7L & 7.4L (HD) bin file definition (XDF) is available in TunerPro. Unfortunately data steam definition (XDS) has not been released. If you have money to spend TunerCAT supports $85 mask. EPROM burner and 256K EPROM and you are in business.

Depending on your 89 transmission some VSS circuit modifications will be required.

Well, enough of rambling on my part - now go do the right thing!

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

Unfortunately i did not get the 80e that went behind the truck, the guy wanted another 600 for it, and at the time i do not have the $$$ for it, nor do i have any equipment for modifying chips at this time. Im in the process of purchasing a chip (TBI chips) for a stock 454 to run with my 7747 and 700r4.

I know thats not what the DIY crowd wants to hear, but i do have my constraints at this time. Eventually i want to upgrade to the RBob's EBL, but will wait till i get a cam, intake, headers, etc...

I appreciate all the info you guys volunteered i always love to learn more about the computers in the vehicles.

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

OK - understanding your situation is the key (wish list can be a mile long!). 1227747 should be able to handle FI duties for 454 power plant. Couple of harness notes that you should know:

1) TPS connector on 93 TB is compact oval style while '89 is inline rectangular. You'll have to swap new connector onto your SBC harness.
2) IAC connector on 93 TB is different from 89 SBC - use donor IAC and connector. You'll have to swap new connector onto your SBC harness (IRC lines C & D are flipped on BBC).
3) BBC KS sensor might be different from a stock '89 350CID - you may have to research this as I am not sure which KS (part number) was used.
4) BBC TB may not have TV cable lever! Since BBC TB was set up with e-trany TV cable lever may have been omitted . 700R4 must have fully functioning and correctly adjusted TV cable or otherwise stock 700R4 will fail within 2 minutes during your first test drive. If you do not believe me do your own research on 700R4 failures and TV cable. As a temporary stop gap you may have to put 350 TB onto BBC until TV cable lever arm is fabed. SBC TB will bolt to BBC, but airflow-fuel will be limited (490CFM vs. 640 CFM).

There are couple of other gotchas that I might be forgetting at this time.

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

yeah i was aware of MOST of those issues, including the 2TB connectors and the lever for the TV cable. However, the knock sensor i was not aware for.

What are the differences in the knock sensor? Is the plug just different? If i encounter any problems i will just swap it out for the one on the 350.

ALso i need to extend the o2 sensor, any issues extending the wire?

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

KS selection is subject to debate. You may try to re-use your existing (OE# 10456018,1045628) 350 KS or keep 454 KS in place (OE #10456031,10456549). Plug is the same for both them.

You can extend O2 circuit wire - just use quality same gauge TXL or GXL automotive wire rated for under hood temperature.

Did you mean ADS file for tunerpro and $85 in the 16147060? If so I have one I just found.

Re: swap 7747 to a 7060

I just got this bin from a FSC list member this morning. It is the most updated 454SS bin that has more aggressive trans tuning than the other 4L80E bins and will make the vehicle feel less heavy and more responsive. Great starting point for a 4L80E swap.

Both files are good just use Firefox - Explorer has bug which results in corrupt ZIP files.
