No spark after intake swap

This weekend i installed a new intake. I got it all together but it wont start. It's got fuel, it's go air, but no spark. I installed a new distributor and coil with the intake swap, everything is connected so im stumped as to what is keeping the car from getting spark. My first guess is that the engine ground wire wasn't where it needs to be, i can't remember where it was initially so can anyone tell me where it goes. I currently have it grounded to the coil bracket.

Any idea's, even the obvious ones are appreciated. Thanks

Re: No spark after intake swap

There are harness grounds attached to the rear of both heads. The ground strap goes from the firewall to the rear intake bolt on the pass side. Check for key on power at the pink wire at the coil. If no power check fuses. Good Luck!

Moved the ground strap and checked for key on power at the coil. Coil is getting power and no fuses that i can see are blown. What else could be wrong?

Re: No spark after intake swap

All right i need some help please. I moved the ground strap from the fire wall to the passenger side head. I checked both red/pink wires coming from the coil harness and they both had 12v. Still no spark at the number 1 plug wire.

Today i wanted to check if i was getting spark from the coil wire to the distributor cap terminal. I stuck a screw driver in the wire and put it millimeters away from the cap terminal and no spark there either. I even held on to the screw driver while it was inside the wire from the coil and i felt no spark. Dose my coil need to be grounded? What could keep spark from going from my coil to my distributor?

(1)Check your control module voltage
(2)and your pick up coil with ohm meter
sounds like simple wire connection
(3)did you use a ohm meter on the coil high and low side

Yes the coil will still work even when not grounded { but you should ground }

Thanks for your reply, ill be up front and honest with you. Im not very savy with the ignition system of my car or terminology of electrical resistance so could you help me out with your suggestions.

Where is my control module and how would i check it's voltage

Whats my pick up coil and what should it read with ohm meter

what is the high and low side of my coil??

Sorry for asking you to talk to me in lame man terms but this is all new to me. Thanks!

you said you installed a new distributor Correct

you said you have 12 volts to the coil

check for 12 volts to the distributor [:]
2 terminal connector lead <> if this is good

disconnect the 4 terminal connector to the distributor
if you get spark you have a bad PU coil

I would check your EST connection it's up against the firewall next to the brake booster it's a module with a 5 port connector its about 3 inch's squared and about 9 mm thin this will cause a no spark

are you sure all of the ground connectors are connected to the studs
on the left and right heads
should be 2 wire harness grounds each side and one ground strap

your starter cranks over correct

check engine light is normal ????

Re: No spark after intake swap

Thanks for your input,

after doing all that you suggested i narrowed the problem to the distributor and coil. Which wasn't in my mind as a possibility because they were both literally brand new out of the box. I ended up taking my ICM to a auto shop to get it tested and the brand new ICM that came with the dissy was dead. I also gave the coil to the guy helping me out and after he inspected it he said he wouldn't put it on his car because of some corrosion of the enamel used to seal it. So along with buying a new ICM I bought an ACCEL coil.

Once installed the car fired right up but now runs very choppy, i can feel a slight miss and it idles at 2500 rpm. I suspect a timing issue so ill start trouble shooting that issue next.
