91 RS RUNNING WAY TO RICH CANT IDLE.

Engine: NO MORE 305. 350 NOW
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 273 NEED NEW ONES
91 RS RUNNING WAY TO RICH CANT IDLE.

I HAVE A 1991 CAMARO 305 TBI AND IT WAS RUNNING MINT THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH WHERE I HAD TO HOLD THE GAS PEDEL DOWN. I HAVE SPENT ALOT OF MONEY SINCE THEN I BOUGHT, NEW MAP SENSOR,TEMP SENSOR,PLUGS,WIRES,NEW DISTRUBTUR,CAP ,ROTOR. PLUGS ARE BLACK. I CHECK THE FUEL PRESSURE IT WAS AT 10. THE ENGING HAS A EDLEBROK CAM, HEADERS WITH Y-PIPE. NO CAT. NO EMISSIONS STUFF. LIKE I SAID THE CAR WAS RUNNING GREAT INTO ALL THIS HAPPEN. I SWITCH A USED TBI WITH SENSORS AND THAT DID NOTHING. ANY HELP? THANKS

seeing that your other post was about the distributor i would check your timing and recheck to make sure your wires are in the right order very easy to switch two by mistake.

also ck. ALL vacuum lines , easy enough to break/disconnect 19 yr. old hoses & plastic . good luck .

I THINK I FOUND MY PROBLEM. I TOOK OFF THE VALVE COVERS AND THERE WAS A LOT OF MILKY SUBSTANCE ON THE TOP OF ONE OF THE VALVE COVER AND WATER MIXED WITH OIL IN THERE. SO TOMORROW I WILL TAKE THE HEAD OFF.

Once you fix that and it still runs like that unplug the coolant temp sensor by the thermostat housing my 91 use to eat these sensors up and would run like ****

Unplug the CTS and see if the richness goes away

that mily substance is oil mixed with water it can be "normal" in cold climates. it is condesation forming in your engine. do you drive a lot of short distances? i have had that with a few engines wipe it out drive around and it will be back. i wouldn't pull the head off unless you are loosing alot of coolant or have a cylinder that insn't firing. mabee try taking the spark plug wires off one at a time and start the engine and if you find one that dosen't change the way it is running thats your bad cylinder, pull spark plug first. dont want to make extra work. maybe drain the oil put new in.

THANKS FOR THE GREAT INFO. I COULD IT EVEN CHECK THE WIRES LIKE THAT BECAUSE AS SOON AS YOU LET GO OF THE GAS IT WOULD STALL. I DID PULLED THE ONE HEAD OFF TODAY AND IT HAD WATER IN THREE CYLINDERS. I KIND OF WAS HAPPY TO SEE THAT. BUT A LITTLE **** OF BECAUSE I JUST PUT THESES HEADS ON ABOUT 100 MILES AGO. THEY HAD OR I WAS TOLD THEY HAD AROUND 80000 MILES ON THE HEADS. THE PERSON GAVE ME ONE BRAND NEW GASKET FOR THEM AND TOLD ME I WOULD'IT USE THIS ONE. SO WHAT DID I DO I USED IT AND BOUGHT ONE NEW ONE. AND THAT WAS THE SIDE THAT WHENT. I DONT KNOW IF IT WAS THE HEAD IT SELF BUT I DONT CARE I AM GOING TO REPLACE BOTH OF THEM. I SHOULD OF DONE THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE INSTEAD OF CLEANING UP OLD **** ONES.
