5.7 tbi

I just acquired a 89 suburban that has a Jasper 350 5.7 tbi. I will be putting the motor in my 87 Monte ss.

My question to the 3rd gen community...
What are some simple must do's to pull some extra hp. I'm more of a paint body guy but have someone doin the motor work. I just wanted to come to the place that specializes in these kinds of motors

Re: 5.7 tbi

I have a tpi unit I was thinking about using. And a set of heads. But I have to run the numbers to find out what they are. Dunno if I will use it tho.

I would like to find a nice came that will give it a pretty radical lope. But from the research I've been trying I guess it's pretty imperative to get one that matches everything with the tbi.

All suggestions apperciated

Re: 5.7 tbi

Depends what "some extra hp" stands for. A mild cam, anough fuel and a decent tune should make 250rwhp easy.

Personally I would pull the heads and check piston to deck, and inspect the engine internally and make sure everything is fine, before installing.

Swapping TBI or TPI alone is probably not going to give lots of gains, just pick the easyer or available.
The HSR will probably only make more power in the rpm's were a stock rebuilt engine starts to desitegrate.

Like I said forgive my ignorance on the engine knowledge. Any exact
cam suggestions would be helpful.

Re: 5.7 tbi

First you need to look in the engine to find out if roller or flat tapped.

Re: 5.7 tbi

According to comp cam quest 6, #12-256-4 should work nice. Mabe you should play with it a little too.
I just noticed a average of 30hp loss using flat tapped vs roller. You will need headers and probably nice heads too for 250rwhp.

And make sure you have a good quench.
