TBI to TPI

i have an 89 rs and have in mind a 383 for new motor. it currently has a 305 tbi i was wondering it there is that much of a hp difference to upgrade from tbi to tpi or if it would be just as good to leave it or put a carb on it? Also if anyone happens to know this would also be helpful. can you reuse a vaccum secondary distributor from a carb 305 on a carb 350?

Re: TBI to TPI

I pulled my TBI engine out, converted it to TPI w/ an LT1 cam in it, and I gotta say it hauls *** like it NEVER did before

was that sarchasm?

If not, well thanks, I like the TPI a hell of a lot better, ALOT more torque, and if i want to merge on the highway, i can do so without fear of being rear ended >.>

Re: TBI to TPI

stock tune on an 87 MAF TPI setup, the MAF will compensate for the increased air flow, though I can benefit from a tune...

I imagine that it would. By pulling the peanut lobed L03 cam out and replacing it with one that actually has lift and duration will wake up any L03. Even if the TBI stayed in place.

It also sounds like there may have been other changes to the engine while it was out?

When several changes are made to an engine at the same time, one can't put all of the gains on one of the pieces. It is all of the items that made the difference.

RBob.
