TBI install?
Hi to all. New member but have already learned so much from previous posts!
I am converting to a TBI from a carb in an 88 Caprice. Lots of questions.
Can I take a chip from a 1227747 ECM (beat up box) and install in a 1228746 ECM?
Thanks! Help!

Re: TBI install?
Thanks again Ronny, I am headed to the bone yard tomorrow to look around. I do have a question. The car had a feed back carb sys on it and the computer service num is 1228022. I can find no reference to this box. Do you have or know of any info on it? I am just curious about a pinout for the darn car. This might help me from removing so many wires.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

Really? Why would anyone want to do that ? Maybe I dont understand the advantage of CCC.

Re: TBI install?
Ronny, got a ??? I am trying to find out about the wires that are connected to the ecm harness that run through another set of plugs, near the ecm, that run to the (dash)? I am going to try to trace them back to the dash but I really wish I just knew what they were for and what to do with them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Re: TBI install?
Yup, got those, but there are some that MIGHT be usable? For ex there is a pnk/blk, ign switched, and a solid bro that is connected tot the heater sys somehow. I think it might be a way for the ac to let the comp know that it is on? You see, the car had a feedback carb system with a computer and many of the wires already match. Still, I have chosen to run a new harness and KNOW that my connections match the pins on the ecm. That and I do NOT want to try to solder under dash!
Any hoo, there is a (brake switch) wire? a solid orange that I have not traced yet, maybe this one is it. I have realized that I need to get power to the bulkhead and trace some power for the ecm.
Have an awsome day. I will hope for some help in figuring this stuff out! JR
PS: the beers on me!

The connector that you referring allows ECM to interface with under dash harness. This is probably incomplete list as I do not have diagram for your car. Identify wires not listed below, trace them back to ECM and post.

Re: TBI install?
Yo Ronny,
just an update on my caprice. After a few glitches, none to big to overcome, I managed to get her running! No exhaust, just manifolds, so sounds awesome (not)! But it runs and thats the best place to start tuning the system. Thanks for all your help. I do have another ? and that is the codes it is showing. The car is off to the shop for exhaust so when I get it back I will be lookin for some help. Thanks again, later......
