Issues after using fuel injector cleaner OR bad gas?
Issues after using fuel injector cleaner OR bad gas?
I have an old beat up 1991 Camaro RS V6. It ran fine for the last few months. I put in STP Fuel Injector cleaner in it a week and a half ago, it seemed to run better for awhile. Yesterday my gas pedal stopped giving power and i had to pull over on the freeway. I start it up and the motor is slugging, then it goes to idle pretty fine, as soon as i apply the gas pedal the car gets sluggish and dies like it's getting all air and no gas. I also filled up from a non-normal gas station the other day. I'm thinking the fuel injection cleaner cleaned a bunch of gunk and it's clogging my injector or fuel lines, or the gas i got was dirty. Thoughts?

I'd try fuel filter first. I'm gussing the fuel injection cleaner loosened crud in the filter that is now causing a clog.
"Bad gas" is highly unlikely these days - ALL gas comes from the same pipeline, it's all the same gas, no matter what brand - it just gets different detergent blends added to make the 'brand' different - it's virtually impossible to get bad gas anymore.

There are TBI V6 cars are there not? Napa, Advance, Autozone, Oreilly's all show a TV cable for a V6 TBI.

V6 f-body's are either carb or MPFI. None were ever TBI. Head over to the V6 board here. Lots of folks there know about these engines.
Although, the first two checks I'd make is fuel pressure (43.5 psi nominal). And if the injectors are OEM, replace them. See the V6 board for more info.

I dont think thiers bad gas but contaminated gas. I had a customer a few months back fill up her fuel tank, We ended up taking 8 gallons of water out of a 15 gallon tank. Needless to say she woudlnt run. the water is like a bubble in there and the motor would not run when it was near the pickup assembly. I say try to always get gas at the same place. Avoid those no name gas stations with the cheapest price.

"Top Tier" gas is the best fuel to use. Alot of other fuels out there do not have the same amount of detergent in them as the top tiers.
Although many of the fuel injector cleaners work, it is sometimes a temporary fix,,, if it fixes them at all. It depends on the condition of your fuel system and your injectors. Remember, when you use these additives as your fuel sytem is getting cleaned, if there is any "gunk" in there, as it runs through the lines it is ultimately going to be flushed into the screens/filters of the fuel injectors.
Hell...our company specializes in cleaning & flowtesting injectors, but we also carry Seafoam and Techron.

I am having the same problem with my 1999 Elantra, used STP injector cleaner, fuel pressure is spot on and the fuel filter is brand new. Running really sluggish and caused the check engine light to come on due to cylinders miss firing. any ideas?
