It's spraying fuel, pulled plug and has spark, when pulled it started but when in it didn't. Just starter not turning over at all. WTF could it be?

 

I changed the cap, rotor, ignition module and no change?

 

Ok. so you have fuel and you have spark. you removed 1 spark plug and it started? Or is the starter not doing anything? Is it cranking and not firing. Or not cranking? If the plug is out and it starts it's almost like the exhaust is plugged so its backing up into the engine and with a plug out it gives the exhaust a place to go. But I need to know what it is doing for sure.

 

Correct with 1 plug out it started, put it back in and it didn't. It will turn over but not start.

 

try unbolting the exhaust flanges and see if it starts then

did you pull distributor?

 

what do you mean? I changed the cap and rotor button and checked the igintion module but didn't change the acutal distributor.

could it be the fuel pressure regulator? maybe it's not getting enough or to little fuel?

How do you remove it on a TBI car? I am new to TBI. please go into detail. the fuel filter might be clogged from the bad starts lately but it did start with the plug out so I doubt it's that.

any other ideas?

Hit it with starting fluid and see if it fires. Ias the spray from injs real good?

 

Poured fuel in the throttle body and it started and ran. It's a fuel issue.



How do you replace the fuel filter?

 

drivers side, in front of the rear wheel. Takes 2 mins to replace with the right tools.

 

Alittle more info? What tools? I've never done this before. It's either that or the fuel pressure regulator.



How do you do it?

 

Highly recommended is a haynes shop manual. check EBay or local auto store. other issues will spring up and you will have it handy.

Changed it... Bad idea in a driveway. I got gas everwhere. It sucks. I'm covered. Drenched my head and shoulders.

It runs now. But very rough. I'm gonna check to make sure I got the plug wires back on right and go from there.

 

well that shouldnt make it fire when a plug is out and not when a plug is in there. Knew it was going to be a fuel problem!

 

Ok it will start and run now and sputter and die. It was starting and running and idling for 5-10 min. Then it would die right after you start it. Act like it's running out if gas and die.
