so i have a 88 formula with a 305 tbi. a few years ago while driving it shut off on its own. it took a while to start but it did, got down the street and it died again and would not keep running. it would start and run just fine till it was put into gear, (its an automatic) or if it hit operating temperature. i have tried replacing the throttle position sensor, egr, and a few other things that i can no longer remember. its been a deployment since then and a few years getting everything back in order till i could work on it again. completely stumped. and i have no idea about electronics. so please dumb it down a little, thanks guys. james

 

Can you hear the fuel pump whining when it's running? With key on? Have you changed the fuel filter?

 

yes the fuel pump whines when the key is turned to the on position, and yes i replaced the fuel line fuel filter. i did not go any farther with that the reason being the car was getting enough fuel to start and run untill it was put into gear or reached operating temperature. is there something i might have missed? thanks for the ideas, james
