fuel delivery problem
Hey everyone, it looks like the birds got another issue, now it seems like a fuel delivery problem. I think my fuel injector is clogged or something. Take a look at the video and let me know what you think.

Re: fuel delivery problem
I think the LH (PS) injectors flow is seriously ugly,...but you knew I'd say that.
Time to get 'em cleaned.

Re: fuel delivery problem
How do I clean 'em? When I was removing the torx bolts out of the top of the tbi, fuel started leaking out and I really don't wanna drain the tank. I used a fuel additive to clean the injectors but looks like it didn't work.

Re: fuel delivery problem
The leakage from the TB as you disassemble it is residual pressure in the fuel system and is normal. If the fuel pressure releasing this way troubles you, you can relieve pressure by disconnecting the fuel pump relay and oil pressure switch, start and run the engine until it dies or just crank it for 5 seconds if it wont start. This will relive most all pressure from the fuel system. Remove the injectors and take them in. Be sure the injector service you use does sonic cleaning. Loosen the gas cap one turn to prevent vapor pressure in the tank forcing fuel from the open TB while you have the injectors out.

Re: fuel delivery problem
Thanks, I couldn't ask for better advice. Il do that as soon as I can. Any idea on the cost to get em cleaned? Due to the economy my work just went out of business so I lost my job. And now I'm kinda strapped for cash.

Re: fuel delivery problem
Injector service is usually about $20 per injector. Youll also want to buy a TB gasket set. Getting the injectors out of the TB can be a PITA. I generally place a 1/4 inch socket wrench on the workbench and press the injector down over it so the socket presses against the injector nozzle, through the openning in the housing, to push the injector out. Do this carefully so not to damage the injector or the housing.
When you go to reassemble, remember there are two o-rings on each injector. A small one at the bottom and a large one at the top. Lube them with vaseline so not to tear them.

Re: fuel delivery problem
Hey Doc, Ive got a question for ya, since Ive got your attention. My car wouldnt even start today, and I pulled quite a few codes. Do you think you could take a look at my other thread and help me out with some of these problems?

Re: fuel delivery problem
The car will still run with the injectors completely disconnected. The passenger side injectors is leaking so much that it will keep the car alive. Where is the oil pressure relay located at?

Re: fuel delivery problem
The oil pressure switch is either a two wire switch on the side of the block just above the filter, or it is built into the oil pressure sender behind the distributor. It depends on the model year. I don't remember when they made the change. Look for the switch on the side of the block.
Honestly though, I work on fuel injected vehicles everyday. I never relieve fuel pressure. It would take up too much time to relieve pressure every time i replace a fuel filter. It's really not a big deal. A little fuel runs out and that's it. In 35 years I have never had a fire start because a little fuel leaked on a an engine. Even when the engine was hot. So I really wouldn't waste alot of time relieving pressure. Just disassemble the TB and get to it.

Re: fuel delivery problem
I went out and bought a brand new injectors instead of getting it cleaned. It looks like who ever replaced it before me put in the wrong injector. No problems seen so far. Runs like a champ now.
Thanks everyone for the advice

Re: fuel delivery problem
Hey Matt, Sounds like things worked out well for you on the injectors. Sorry I didn't get right back to you on your other thread. Didn't notice your post about it til today. As far as those codes go, they may well be connected to the poor engine operation, caused by the bad injectors. If any of them persist now that your running problem is solved, let us know and we'll tackle them as they come. Good luck and happy motoring.
