Low Stock Power
I've got an 89 Rs 305ci. These things make pretty decent torque, but why only 150 horsepower? Are there any low cost upgrades to give the car a little more umph? thanks!
Alex.
Edit. 305 TBI.
Would a TPI be worth investing into if I could get the parts from a local yard?

Re: Low Stock Power
Welcome aboard. Take a look at the stickies at the top of this forum to help get you started. There is too much to mention in one thread.
These engines were never intended to be a performance engine. Fats burn heads, efficient EFI, and a small cam = low power band. These motors have a lot of bottle necks that need to be addressed but they can make decent power and be fun to drive.

lowest cost upgrades including advancing your timing. open air element/cold air induction setup. and lightening up your car. Great mods that cost a little money. Full exhaust, high flow catalytic converter, headers. Will yield you the greatest gains with the stock engine and make you a lot happier.

Thanks guys. I've been wandering around the board for a while just to get a sense of everything. The only thing I hate is living in California. But I don't mind too much.

Yeah your real limited to what you can do here in california due to smog....but thier are a lot of carb approved performance parts for the cars. What part of California do you live in?

I live in the middle of California near the coast. If you ever look on a head of lettuce you'll probably see the cities name. Salinas. haha. I've really just thought about maybe exhaust from after the cat back to free up a little horse power. Does summit actually make a cold air intake for a thirdgens? I always see them for trucks that are tbi but never camaros
