heads/cam/intake info and ideas

1991 pontiac firebird 305 t.b.i 700r4

Hey guys i am new to the 305 tbi motor but not new to working on cars, I have finally started to get a list together for a decent build for my 305, I know everyone says go with a 350 but i am staying with the 305 to have something different... Anyways i have decided to go with 3.42's out back and for up front i am going to use the vortec heads either the 906 or 062's whichever i find first and a lt1 cam (may go a little bigger not much) I am now onto the intake manifold...I know there is the gmpp intake as an option but i was wondering if i can use something like this: Edelbrock 2116 - Edelbrock Performer Vortec Intake Manifolds and just use a t.b.i adapter?
any other options let me know i am open to suggestions

Re: heads/cam/intake info and ideas

1. Casting #10239906
casting #12558062
Either #062 or 906’s does not matter same flow rating.
'96-'99 trucks. They require a specific intake manifold,

2. Edlebrock Performer RPM Intake Manifolds #7116 (tbi plate)

3. Hedman headers

4. Hedman y pipe

5. Comp cams 1.6rr

6. Gm performance valve springs (part#12499224)

7. Fuel pressure regulator and 60lb injectors

8. not sure on lifters yet

thats my current list,

I plan on going to a 750cfm carb in the future but wanna get all the basics done first.

for my cam i am going with the lt4 hot cam 218/228 .525/.525

any other suggestions?

3-If your going hedman, may as well get the long tubes.

5-don't forget the proper length pushrods to match. since your replacing them, may as well get the .080 wall.

7-Be sure to replace tbi pump. its max pressure is around 14psi. I have a tpi in mine, with a steady 20psi with modded regulator.

8-AcDelco lifters

I have a walbro 255 already, My pump went out on me last summer and i already knew i was going to upgrade everything come spring so i planned ahead.

don't the long tube have clearance issues? Something about having to notch the sub frame to get them to clear or something with a/c

Re: heads/cam/intake info and ideas

750 carb will be way too much - won't need over 600cfm carb when that happens.

I'm assuming you'll be carbing as soon as these mods take place? Not really a need for the TBI adapter - if not swapping to carb at same time, you'll be sitting in a non-running car unless you know how to program TBI chips - after these bolt-ons car won't run at all off a stock chip.

I had a friend mock a bracket for the a/c, cost'd him 10$ gave him a $20. they came close to the k-member, nothing a hammer couldn't take care of.

Re: heads/cam/intake info and ideas

I think you need to decide if you want TBI or carb. you dont need a 255lph to feed a carburetor that runs on 7-10 psi..

You are going to need to take those heads to the machine shop to work with that cam. At the minimum you will need to have the valve guides cut, install new springs, and the pressed in studs removed for screw in studs. This will add an easy $300 to your budget if not more.

Re: heads/cam/intake info and ideas

I am not to worried on the cost (not saying its not an issue) I am just looking for an all around performing car. i am not wanting a 11 sec car or anything like that just a fun street car that i can take on our cruises but still be able to at least hang with stock lt1's
