Re: cam help?
I looked at the listing - and here is the problem :
"Professionally rebuilt pair of small block Chevrolet heads. Casting number is: 416. These heads do have the accessory holes. Heads fit all small block Chevrolet engines, 283 - 400. If you need them drilled for steam holes for the Chevrolet 400 we will do that for you at no extra charge. Heads have the 64 CC chambers."
and
"Heads are assembled with new stainless 2.02 swirl polished intake valves
Heads are assembled with new stainless 1.60 swirl polished exhaust valves"
The "416" casting number that I know of (14014416) were used on 80-85 HO305 usually come with 55 to 59 cc chamber and have 1.84"/1.50" valves..
On a stock bottom end 305 you'll need to use 55-58cc heads to maintain compression. If you move to 64 cc chamber head you will loose 0.75 of CR which is not good for performance (going from 9.0:1 to 8.25:1 CR will not win too many races!). I would contact the listing owner and verify complete casting number and combustion chamber size.
Over the years there have been a lot debates regarding use of 2.02/1.60 in 305's. I am not going to open this can of worms - the debate still rages on! FWIW I would upgrade stock 416 to 1.94/1.50 valves and make sure that springs and head can handle 0.550 valve lift for possible future cam upgrades.
