After all these years, it's time to say goodbye.....to TBI lol

Well guys the time has come, after all this time, the time has come to move on. The ZZ5.0 has finally been removed from the equation. The LT383 will soon be taking up residence in the 88's engine bay. I want to thank all of you in the TBI world for all of the knowledge you have given me. I'll still be around these boards to check things out and to help out the newbs in anyway I can. Thanks everybody and keep pushing TBI to new heights!!!

You don't think a TBI will feed the 383?

Or you just ready to step up?

Oh I believe it would, I even thought about running the LT383 being powered by a 454 tbi unit and a single plane manifold lol. but when it came down to cost it would roughly be the same as the single plane efi setup that i've been wanting to go with. Plus I really want to try something new and single plane efi has always appealed to me.

It's definitely NOT a crappy set up. I made good power with a halfassed 305 with a "stock" TBI unit. I respect your opinion but I must agree to disagree with you. My 305 OUTGUNNED my L98 by a LARGE margin.

Did you ever take it to the track? Tpi will usually walk all over a tbi setup

No I just raced them both against each other. I would drive the tbi car while a friend would drive my tpi car. here's a short race against the two, the camera car is my L98.

Nope, that was the end result all the time everytime. Even from a roll My tbi car would smash my tpi car. In that video BOTH cars had Nitto radials.

By no means am i knocking a 305. my car had the tuned port 305 to start with. I put headers and exhaust on it and a set of goodyear ss drag radials and i ran an 8.71 in the 1/8th. Im now running 7s with my 350 so thats alot different

Re: After all these years, it's time to say goodbye.....to TBI lol

I never said it was stock lol. I had A LOT of mods done to that 305. I had barely ported ZZ4 heads, ZZ4 cam with 1.6 on the intake and 1.5 on the exhaust. Hooker 2055 header with a full 3 inch aerochamber exhaust, 3200 edge stall with a B&M shift kit and 3:42 gears with an Eaton posi. Plus the car weighs 2860 without me in it. I have slips to prove it. along with many other suspension upgrades. All I've done to my L98 is a full Hooker exhaust with 2460's and an open element with some mild weight reduction. Other than that it's fairly stockish.

What all did you do to get the weight down?

I forgot to mention i had 4.10 gears in there at that time. It was a full interior car. i didnt remove anything. It shocked a few people as good as it ran on the track. I took it out one morning when it was really cold and when i fired down it hard it blew a head gasket and i just decided i wasnt going to fix it and thats when my 350 came into the equation

The car is gutted..I mean completely. The only thing I have in the interior is a racing seat and a home made styrofoam dash. No carpet, speakers radio nothing. Everything underneath the hood that wasn't needed was removed. I replaced the stock crash bars with aluminum channel stock I got from the metal shop here in town. That alone removed 75lbs of weight out of the car but in hind sight I should've keep the rear one for better grip lol. I can't wait to get the 383 in the car.

Are the crash bars really that heavy?

Oh yeah they are, I wanted to get a stock aluminum one but those are a pain to find most of the time and if people want to sell them they want outragous prices for them. So I made my own

How do you get them off without tearing up the door sheet metal? Mine are still in the doors but im trying to find ways to shave some good amount of weight. This is not a street driven car. Maybe 2 miles down the road to the car wash and thats it! Any pics?

What I meant were the front and rear crash bars, the bumpers, lol. I'd leave the doors alone honestly. Not enough weight to be shed to sacrifice the safety of them.

The front one helps to stiffen the front end of the car doesnt it
