injector problems

I have a 1989 formula with the 305 TBI. It has been sitting for about two years now and im finally getting around to fixing her up. I believe my injectors are pluged. Drained all the bad gas and filled up with new. I have flow to the tbi but it just drips out of the injector instead of spraying. Is there a quick way to unplug them or should I just go ahead and rebuild the whole thing.

Re: injector problems

are you sure the computer is firing the injectors? but also, they should not just drip either so you're in the right area....

Re: injector problems

I bought a Treasure Yard TBI because I thought I was having problems with the existing TBI being plugged and not supplying fuel under high-demand conditions. (Turned out to be an O2 sensor fault, but I didn't know that at this time.)

The replacement TBI wouldn't squirt out of the right-side injector. Left side was fine.

Swapped wire harnesses to the injectors, the right side still didn't fire. Not an electrical problem.

I sat on the stool staring at the thing as the engine was idling roughly on four cylinders...and after about five minutes running time, the right side injector suddenly started spraying. Has not given me a minute's trouble ever since; and I think it's been nearly two years.

I'm guessing that the injector was stuck or plugged by varnish build-up; and running gasoline through it eventually dissolved the varnish...but I have no way to prove that.

I was thinking that it was pluged by varnished gas but both injectors are pluged and will not put out enough gas to idle the car. Only way I can keep it running is with starting fluid.

Re: injector problems

very common for TBI injectors to stick if they sit unused a few years-if they don't free up and begin working again once exposed to fresh gas, sometimes a little bump with a 3/8"extension or something between the terminals will get them working again.

Thanks for the info guys. Pulled the injector pod off of the TB last night going to soak them down with some carb cleaner and try tapping it with an extention.

If all else fails, we will be more than happy to clean and flow them for you

Re: injector problems

Ok I got the injectors unpluged and spraying. Drained old gas filled with new and put a can of seafoam in the tank. Car still wont start. Will only run on starting fluid. Every couple of cranks it will try to run but it will idol up to 1100 rmp or so and die. Not shure where to go from here. What gets me down is this car ran like a champ when I parked it two years ago. Any ideas?
