Do you have headers, is that the clearance issue? Either way, there are a couple plugs that give me issues. What I do is take a socket with a 1/2" drive to get on the plug and then tighten it with a small strap wrench or whatever method you can use to tighten it. One option that I have heard of, and used one time, to get the old plug off is to just break the ceramic part and then you can fit whatever socket you need. Hope that helps.

Get a plug socket that has a hex end where the wrench connects. Then use an open end wrench or a ratchet with a short socket to get it loose and to tighten.

I bought a max acess socket set from sears. Works very well. I tried the hex on the SP socket with a closed end ratchet wrench and even after I cut down socket and drilled it out it was not going to work. Part of issue was the head location was recessed and my headers of course.

i cut down a regular 5/8 spark plug socket to where you slip it on and the end of the plug stick outs of the end of the socket i then take a wrench to turn it to tighten or loosen.

Hedman places header pipe #2 right in front of plug. Room for the R angle plug cap but a cut down and closed end wrench did not work for me. Cant get socket over plug. Max Access Sears worked excellent.

Just replaced all of them this morning. A lot of swearing and squeezing your hands and arms down there. Good thing I had a piece of cardboard underneath for when I dropped it twice because I didn't buy extras.
