Is this a miss?

Ok guys so i did a search and didn't find my exact issue. 305 automatic, When started it idles and runs fine while cold. After warming all the way up it still runs and drives fine but at idle in park i get a pop every few seconds. Not like (pop pop pop pop pop) like (pop 1 2 3 4 5 Pop). Its only every few seconds. Not really sure if its something to be worried about, i just know it ain't normal. It comes from the exhaust not the intake. Any ideas. All mods I've done are in my sig. Thanks in advance.

Re: Is this a miss?

From the description sounds like backfire or "popping" through intake. If able, make a vid and post on youtube.

Re: Is this a miss?

I believe the timing is right, i'll have to check it. I checked it last year but i don't remember what it was at. I believe its coming from the exhaust though not the intake cause the sound comes from the back of the car, not from under the hood.

Re: Is this a miss?

Popping in the exhaust is from fuel burning after it has left the combustion chamber, or while an exhaust valve is not fully closed. It could be that the motor is running rich or the timing is not correct.

Re: Is this a miss?

I would check timing and coolant temp sensor.

Re: Is this a miss?

Well my timing is advanced 4*, i took the advice from pound and agreed it seemed like it was running rich at idle. I just got done moddifying my air cleaner by cutting the base out and making a bowl to flow into the tbi. I have pics of it in my fabrication thread. Anyways the tbi is open a lot more now and it now isnt popping at idle anymore with the extra air able to get in now. Hopefully i'll notice some better mpg numbers.
