305 TBI Build Parts Help
I want to build the 305 that is already in my 92 camaro. What cylinder heads, shorty headers, and intake manifold would work? Also, what is a really good rear end ratio to accelerate fast from either a dig or closer to 10mph? I have the stock 2.73 and wanted to do something like 3.73? Part numbers would be helpful. I don't know exactly what size combustion changer volume and etc. I should use. If it all works, what would the numbers estimated to be? The 92 305 has really good torque, but maybe 270hp to the wheels and 350torque would be better.
Re: 305 TBI Build Parts Help
Cylinder heads on a 305 are always difficult. Anything that has small chambers to preserve compression ratio tends to be non-breathing, non-burning junk, or expensive. The only thing you have going for you is that if the original heads are the swirl-port style, there's nowhere to go but "up".
Add in the need for the exhaust crossover to enable EGR function, and you narrow the field some more.

Re: 305 TBI Build Parts Help
Following along in this tread since i just got a 92 camaro rs with a 305 and looking for some upgrades also. From some of the research i found so far we may be able to use the following from edelbrock
Performer intake manifold for tbi and smog legal part number 3704
Performer street legal heads part number 60859
I still am looking for headers
Thanks
Mark

Re: 305 TBI Build Parts Help
Just a bit of info for you. I also have the 305TBI in my Firebird. I originally wanted to do the same as you and build my existing 305. I did my home work and created a shopping list of the parts that it would take to get my car to around 350hp (and that in my opinion is probably close to max hp capability). The parts included the following:
Hooker Headers
3" Flowmaster exhaust
Trickflow heads
Holley high rise intake manifold
Camshaft
670 cfm Throttle Body
MSD Ingnition
MSD Coil Pack
3.42 gears
The total to just purchase the parts was just under $4,000. You could get a mildly build 350 with more hp potential for less then that. Just FYI. So, at this point, I'm just going to do exhaust work and gears on my 305 and next winter put in a 350.

Damn. Right now it has flow master exhaust system. Soon I might buy short tube hooker headers from summit for $176 and leave it at that. Now for a 350, if I were to do the same and put a mild cam, what are decent heads, and intake manifold to use and what hp/tq would that be eatimated? Also, would headers for a 305 fit on a 350?

Plain ol' ordinary '96-newer Vortec heads for budget performance. Used will cost less than new, but watch for cracked castings.
Aftermarket cast-iron heads for moderate performance. Vortec-style work well, but there are other options. If you're interested in going this way, I have a pair of new castings for sale. PM for details.
Aftermarket aluminum heads for best performance and weight loss. Most expensive. Used heads may be a smart choice depending on availability/selection.
Add ~40 horsepower and 50 ft/lbs of torque for a mild 350 over a mild 305, except a mild 305 is harder/more expensive to build due to cylinder head selection.
305 headers will bolt right up to a 350 unless you've got some weird headers that use the extended bolt pattern. I'm not sure I've ever seen headers like that, but they may exist. As long as the new heads have the same bolt pattern as the old heads, you're set. Shorties would not be my first choice.

Re: 305 TBI Build Parts Help
In the past week or so, you've posted multiple threads about various different motors, from 355s to 350s to 383s. Step away from the forum, stop asking people to spoon feed you information, and go to the Google machine and spend a few hours goggling your questions. Most of them have probably already been answered.
Also, judging by your threads you have no idea what you want. Before you start planing on building this motor, have you fixed the starting issue yet?
Also, in your thread about trying to fix the starting issue you said you were going to put plugs in the 305 that were originally intended for your 97 Camaro. I'm guessing your 97 is a LT equipped car, and a quick google search revealed that the LT motors use a longer spark plug than the 305s do, using the incorrect spark plug may yield unsavory results, especially if the longer spark plug extends into the combustion chamber so much as to get in the way of valves or pistons.
