89 Camaro TBI on Top Gear
Anyone see the 89 Camaro Tanner drove on Top Gear last week?
What a crock.
First, Tanner is a professional race car driver supposedly obsessed with winning, yet he chose the lowest-performance V8 3rd Gen available in 1989. They had a budget of 5 grand, there are plenty of TPI 5.7 and 5.0 Camaros and Firebirds available for that. No way he would choose a TBI.
In the speed test, he says it's speed-limited to 115 mph, and proceeds to hit 115. Hmmmmm ... my understanding was all TBI cars were speed-limited to 108. I know after first reading that on here, I took my '89 Formula out and tried it, and right at 108, that limiter kicked in every time.
In the Lou Ferrigno challenge, we learned someone had put a staggered set of tires on the car. Strangely, though, the larger tires were on the front!
I've been a fan of the UK version of Top Gear for years, but the US version is just horrible.
