problem timing after rebuild
i just swaped my 305 block for a rebuilt one. i installed the distributor and set the time by hand. i went to roll it over to see if it would start and i get gas sperting up out of the TBI. what could this be? is it back firing or something along that line? any help would be great.

Yep so I just reset tdc and that solved the back fire problem but it still will not fire up. I checked the plugs and there burnt. Could that stop it from firing?

You will get a little smoking from new pipes some times....oil left on the pipe surface from the forming process. But that burns off pretty quickly, and is coming off the outside of the pipe itself, not from inside of it.
I didn't see where you are from. I'm in Michigan, and when I start a car in this weather, it is not unusual to get a lot of condensation drifting out of the exhaust like a cloud. But this ends pretty quickly as the engine and converter warm up. But if you live in a cold climate, you already know that.
If the "cloud" coming from your exhaust does not taper ff as the car warms, or if it has an unusual, sweet aroma to it, then I'd say you have a coolant leak.
