help with timing.
So I just got my 88 305 TBI running. I put the timing light on it and it is on 7. What is the sweet spot for the distributor?

Check the link below. Explains it way better than I could.

"0" is the standard. You can advance it, depending on your vehicle, until it bogs down. Then stay at the previous setting. Takes some trial and error.

Re: help with timing.
Disconnect the EST wire, start car and idle until the car is at operating temp., adjust timing, shut off car , reconnect EST wire.
I ran at 4* advanced for a while but now prefer a stock setting of "0". That way everything is in sink and I don't have to bump it back and forth every 2 years for smog.
A digital gun like this is a must in my book. Makes a traditional gun seem like a rock. Gives RPM also necessary to set Minimum Idel Speed.
This is what I have =

Ya I put my timing light on it but I can't really set it myself. Probably ask one of my friends to help today.

Re: help with timing.
Be very careful when working around the distributor hold down bolt. There are very small hard plastic vacuum lines that are brittle and can break easily.
Crack the one going to the MAP sensor and you will know it promptly.
You can see the one I cracked with a hose patch . It went to the MAP. It was not pretty on the next start attempt with it left broken.I never thought a sensor could have that kind of effect. I thought the TBI exploded.
I would buy a set of these. = http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0716&ppt=C0374 Or try a Crowes foot that is taped to the extension so it does not come off.
