305 TBI Wont idle

305 TBI Wont idle
I have a 92 RS with a 305 TBI in it. At first it was idling really really fast, so I replaced the IAC valve. Now it's idling too slow. It won't idle by itself at all on start up or when stopped. I replaced fuel filter and it didn't help at all. Checked timing and that isn't the problem. I don't know what it could be. I honestly don't think my car has the power that it should either. Any help is appreciated guys.

check your vacuum lines?
no open ports on the TBI? where a line should go.
whats your injector spray look like?
unplug the TPS (throttle position sensor) an see if that changes anything
then the map sensor, now this thing dont typically go bad unless
its cracked or crushed but u could unplug it an see if it changes for the good or bad...during idle
then last on the list is ur Temp sensor, if computer thinks your car is hot or cold car gonna adjust it self for idle..

Actually. My temp sensor doesn't even work. So my gauge don't work either. Oh and I forgot to add something, when I'm going down the road, sometimes I get a big whiff of gas. Kinda like its getting too much or something.

Re: 305 TBI Wont idle
i would look into getting that temp sensor working
check those wires u can replace them if there to toast or what not
and temp sensor like 12-14$ at ur part store

Re: 305 TBI Wont idle
What did you do when replacing the IACV ?
There is a procedure that must be done when installing one.
After resetting the IACV you then set minimum idle speed using the idle stop screw and a digital tachometer like the one you find on a digital timing gun. That's how you set idle.
There's more to the exact process but I need to know how the IACV was installed.

Re: 305 TBI Wont idle
It comes from the factory with a thin metal cover over it.
The screw takes small torques/star wrench .I believe it a T15
If the cover is gone that’s a good indication someone has messed with it and if they don’t know what there doing it can seriously effect the cars ability to idle properly and at the correct RPM.
If the cover is gone than its best to reset the IACV and then set the minimum idle speed.
So it’s a stock timing setting of 6* BTDC = advanced .
Then resetting the IACV
Then adjusting the idle stop screw until, in your case is 600 RPM with the EST wire unplugged and the car at normal operating temperature using a digital tachometer.
There a little more to it but once you get it down its really easy to do.
If you don't have one yet I suggest at least a Chilton's Manual.
