Was wanting advice

I have a 91 camaro rs 305 tbi. It is my daily as of now and as soon as i get another daily i am rebuilding the engine. Ive been slowly replace all sensors and connectors in the engine bay and i cant find a list anywhere of all the sensors in the bay. Ive replace the iac, tps, distributor, plug wires, spark plugs, secondary ignition, map sensor, temp sensor and i think there is more that i cant remember. But ive noticed things that i do not know the name of and would like to do a full restoration on the engine. Within the next few days i plan on replacing the knock sensor and rebuilding the thottle body. I just had to do the heater core (talk about a job) my car runs VERY smooth since i first got it but i do get a code 43. It seems to only come on when im on the highway. Also if my car is at operating temp and im in heavy traffic it trys to stall. Thats the only problems i seem to be having. But on a cold start and a normal drive its runs amazing. So i would just like to know a list of sensor/connectors/etc. That i could replace. And could my knock sensor be the problem im having?

Re: Was wanting advice

Is code 43 thrown when into the throttle? If so it is failing the forced knock test. Be sure that the distributor base timing is set correctly. And that you are using regular fuel, not premium.

I am running regular unleaded. My base timing is good. And sometime it seems that it happens when I get into the throttle but at other times it seems random. I have heard a bad knock sensor can cause this since it is able to adjust the timing up to 20 degrees. When it stalls it seems to be flooding itself because the when it dies i get a strong smell of gas. This also seems like a bad injector. Soni wont know til i replace it.

There's little point to randomly replacing sensors that may be working just fine. Tune-up parts are another story--distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, spark plugs, all filters; and of course anything made of rubber: belts, hoses, suspension bushings, mounts, etc.

Connect a scan tool, look at the data stream. Verify fuel pressure, and cranking compression. Find out what's REALLY wrong.

You'll want a Genuine GM service manual also.

Re: Was wanting advice

I was replacing my heater hose and asked a friend to start my car and noticed a backfire come from the header. Ive alway gad a small leak that i thought was coming from the old y pipe flange being bent A little. Come to realize my O2 sensor is GONE. I guess the idiot who had my car broke it amd didnt replace it. So im hoping after a new O2 sensor is put in itll will be fine. I would still like to know of any more sensors or connectors i can replace. Even if they work its good preventative maintenance.

Re: Was wanting advice

Since at times it is random, check that the knock sensor wire is not close to any spark plug wires. There are two ways to get code 43:

A failed forced knock test (done when engine is up to temperature and a decent amount of throttle is being used).

Second is runaway knock. Unplugging the knock filter will do this. As will corroded terminals in the knock filter connector or module itself.
