HELP
HELP
I bought a 91 RS 305 4 months ago and it was running just fine. then it was misfiring and i found that i have a bad spark plug. replaced the plugs, all ready to go but then the car would crank but not start and yes i check the order of the wires about 20x at this point. so then i thought it was the ignition coil, so i replaced that. still the same problem. then i bought a new battery, changed nothing. took about a month off from working on the car out of frustration. came back a few days ago and checked the fuses. i had a busted, unmarked red 10 A. replaced that and went to start it, wasn't spraying gas. put gas in the car and then it started spraying gas but the car wouldnt start. At this point the main suspect had been the distributor. finally replaced the distributor yesterday and now the injectors do not spray gas at all. picked up a noid light today and i have no pulse. i am now stuck and i don't think it's VATS bc my security light does not flash at all. what do i do? money is very limited right now and i don't think this is a matter of buying parts anymore.
Re: HELP
Never was a matter of buying parts.
Does the distributor rotor spin when you crank the engine with the distributor cap off? If the distributor doesn't turn, or doesn't turn uniformly (stops and starts) which is very rare, a failed roll-pin holding the distributor gear to the distributor shaft is most likely. Otherwise it's a broken camshaft, or broken timing chain. All of this is wildly unusual. Possible, not at all likely.
If the distributor turns, do you have spark? No spark and no fuel is likely a failed pickup coil or a failed ignition module. Might want to re-install the old distributor, 'cause at least then you had fuel spray. Verify that all the wires/connectors that plug into the distributor and ignition coil are in place and in good condition. Re-test for spark with the old distributor. If you have spark and fuel, and the spark plugs aren't fouled, I'd expect it to run.
