Pulled distributor...New coil...No spark.

About two weeks ago, my ignition coil died. So, while I was waiting for my replacement to arrive, I decided to pull the distributor and clean it up. So, my coil arrives. Install coil and distributor. Go to fire...Double check everything. Start...No start! All it does is sit there. Pulled a spark plug, cranked and grounded the plug. No spark for sure. Uh oh.

So, just to double check things, I pull off the new distributor cap (Autozone Conrad thing) and I see that my ignition module was hooked up wrong. Ok...Return wires to right positions. Crank...Well, The previous owner of my car was a dumbass and i've got cut/loose wires all over my engine bay. One of those cut wires was the two that lead from the coil to the distributor. I turned the key to start it and I see that me, being the 3 A.M. mechanic that I am, have forgotten to tape up the coil-distributor wire (One that leads to ignition module), and it's grounded out on the valve cover when that coil went hot. It got really hot under there actually...lit up the whole garage.

So, tape everything up and hope i've not blown the ignition coil...Crank...Still nothing. No spark. No fire. Nothing. I know i've got fuel pressure because I replaced part of the fuel line with rubber hosing and I feel the fuel pulsations when I crank it.

What could be the problem? I did have a rough time and had to jam the distributor back into it's hole, but I made sure I installed it back as closely as I could to when I pulled it out (Marked it out with touch-up paint.), but I think it looked like it was a couple of notches off when I put it back in. Could that make a severe difference? The car has NO will to start at all. No fire. Plugs smell like fuel. I didnt think it could affect it that bad though?

What else could I be dealing with? When the igniton coil grounded could that have fried it?

Okay, i'm through typing. Somebody help me! I need to get this car running by tomorrow.

take warrantied distributor out, take back to AZ, have them test it. IF bad swap, if good, ..................go back, reinstall & check for codes. Hel l, check for codes before you pull the distributor & then have it tested.
