Code 32 only in OD
Hello,
I've searched the board but didn't find a post that corresponded to this particular issue. I've got a 1990 Firebird Formula TBI w/ 305 engine w/ auto transmission. When I cruise on the highway using the OD setting on the shifter I'll get a Code 32 SES light after 15-20 minutes of driving. However, when I cruise at highway speeds using just the D setting the ECM doesn't trigger the Code 32 SES light.
Does that point to the solenoid being bad instead of the EGR valve? Or, is it something else?
Thanks!
David

Find a REAL service manual, find out what conditions set Code 32 on your vehicle. Follow the diagnostic procedure.
Do you have a modified exhaust system? Some EGR valves sense backpressure.

Re: Code 32 only in OD
Thank you for the reply! After posting, I did come across a thread that discussed aftermarket exhaust systems causing this problem. The car is new to me about two months ago. I suspect the pipes from the cat back are aftermarket. Not sure about the cat itself. I've tried to find a photo of OEM exhaust for the 90 Firebird Formula but am having trouble finding one.
Would an exhaust manifold leak also cause this code under these circumstances?
Thanks!
David

Re: Code 32 only in OD
I had a code 32 on my '91 RS 305 TBI that would only show up on the highway in OD at low RPMs. EGR valve was full of carbon when I pulled it off. Replaced it 3 years ago, no problems since.
