TBI performance fuel pump ?

Is there any such thing as a high performance TBI fuel pump ? Doing the 4th gen fuel tank swap and need to replace the EFI high pressure pump with the appropriate med. pressure pump for the TBI. Wouldn't mind a pump with a few more PSI up to the regulator for a little track side tuning. Not sure if the original return lines were big enough for a full blown EFI pump. Suggestions?

FYI -This is for low buck endurance road race car. Can run at elevated RPM and extreme use for 24 hours. Keeping the TBI for a little race class rules loophole. An external fuel pump ?

Re: TBI performance fuel pump ?

A stock replacement TPI pump works. Or a 190 LPH pump. Do not go with anything larger. Not sure if the 4th gen fuel pump module uses a jet pump, if so your choices may be limited as they sometimes have another outlet port on the fuel pump to drive the jet pump.

Re: TBI performance fuel pump ?

Thanks for info. Anybody have a recommendation or part# for that pump ? Only problem is that we would have to go back with the old steel tank which is 1.5 gallons smaller than the fourth gen pl. tank. Really looking to use that extra gallon + in a stock OEM tank. We burn +- 8 gallons per hour on the track. Really looking for a two hour drivers shift. I know this is a de evolution of your normal performance mods.

Anybody have any experience with an inline TBI pump ? Carter makes one

Anybody know the fuel specs ( pressure,LPHs ) on the V6 fourth gen camaros ?

Re: TBI performance fuel pump ?

I'd just run a Walbro 255 and be done with it. It won't bee too much pump as the excess will just go right back down the return side. I ran one for years with my old TBI set-up as well as many others. A 190 as Rob mentioned is also plenty.

What part number and where can I get a 255 that will fit in the factory location of a 91RS.

CORVETTE C4 ( TPI ) 1985-1987 FUEL PUMP INSTEAD OF ORIGINAL ( TBI ) C3 1982 ONE ?

In order to be able to solve a problem of insufficient pressure on the TBI of a 1982 Corvette CFI, is it common to replace the old original fuel pump with a new one from a Corvette C4 ( 1985-1987 : TPI ) in particular by a DELPHI FE0110-11B1 ?
Is TBI pressure regulator adjustment necessary, or other modification ?

Re: TBI performance fuel pump ?

I used a Vortec* fuel pump on my TBI car years ago, and it's still running.

*'96-'98 C/K trucks. Those will always be the real "Vortec" engines to me.
Everything else ('99- up) is an LS to me.

Used one in my G20 van too. Years ago I called it the CPI Astro van pump but turns out it was used in the later Vortecs too. More than capable of feeding a 500 hp engine. GM used the same pump in the Ramjet 502 rated 502 hp.

If this is for in-tank installation and you want a TPI pump, the 85-87 AC Delco corvette pump works just fine. A lot of CFI guys move to that pump when upgrading from a stock pump. I use a 255 lph pump, externally regulated, vac referenced with block off plates on my CF and works great. The pump is quiet as a church mouse. GL
