First run with the firebird
First run with the firebird
Well I got the tranny mount replaced and an oil pressure gauge hooked up so we decided to hit the track. I took my car and my girlfriend took hers (the firebird). she was nervous so I rode along the first pass (bone stock) and went 17.8x @ like 73. so then I took off the aircleaner lid and got out(200lbs) and she went 17.3 @ 77 or so. 16s for sure next time out right? gonna hollow out the cat, and do some of the tbi mods and swap aircleaners. maybee even ditch the smog pump.
i need a bit more info before i cna comment.
can you give us complete time slips(60, 330, 1/8, 1000, 1/4) and what is your elevation? that mph is way off unless the car needs a tune up and about 4 cans of tb/carb cleaner to be run through it.

Times still seem a little high... even with no tune up I would think you'd be under 17. Where did you make the run? What was the temp and elevation?
Im in florida so the elevtion isnt a problem. The car seems to run fine its just slow. Did anyone else here actually run a %100 stock car with 80k miles? im wondering because I thought this was all it could do. also all she did was put it in drive and stomp the gas. No manual shifting or anything. Would that have helped it shifted close to 5k anyway.
i ran my car dead stock when i first bought it with 27,000,iles on it and it went 15.9 @ 84.9. i woudl say do a full tune up on the car first.
then check a few things. 1. see if the cat is clogged, if it is plugged up it will really prevent power(this is pretty common), 2. throw in a new O2 sensor, they get beat after a while and most people never replace them, 3. make sure the a/c is releasign from whatever locked position it was in during the drive to the track(both defroster and cold air lock the compressor), sometimes whne they start to wear out the compressor will stay locked.
the only othe rthing i woudl say is it sounds like the car is spinning a little bit at launch, can't be too much because it is not pulling a very strong mph(mph is what shows hp).
look into these things and let us know what you are seeing.

Here's what I would do... Replace the fuel filter and run a bottle of Chevron fuel system cleaner through it. Make sure you replace the filter FIRST! If you don't, the cleaner will dissolve all the crap in the filter and dump it in the engine! It's strong stuff, I found out the hard way.
An ounce or so of Marvel Mystery Oil in the tank wouldn't hurt either. That'll help lubricate everything. After those run throught the system, make sure the injectors are pulsing right and that the spray is even and conical. Check the coil and all the plug wires to make sure they aren't arcing anywhere. Just start the engine at night with the hood up and the underhood light out. You'll see anyplace that electricity is jumping. Finally, make sure there are no codes.

There is a code for the Vehicel speed sensor.
on the second run it spun a little but the thing dosnt really have much power off the line.
NJspeeder what gears are in your car( or what was when stock).
this car has 2.73s
jeez I didnt think that the times were that bad. I knew it was slow so maybee Im not expecting enough out of it. Before I run it again the cat will be beat out, smog may be bypassed, and Ill check the condition of some plugs. the fuelfilter Idea is good along w/ some carb spray cleaner.

Those 60's look pretty bad. My car bone stock was pulling 2.30's, and I felt like I couldnt drive. She ran 16.40 @ 80.40 mph, with a high MPH of 82 stock.
Definatlly tune the thing up, you're losing quite a bit of power somewhere.
