Should I try to put this on with headers and without a new cam to see what happens? I figure its SO much less work it couldn't hurt to try.

I'd do the cam swap all at the same time. I think you would notice the most gain, and the Lt1 cam will help you get into that rpm band a lot easier.

I would put both in at the same time, but looking at it from the other side of the argument: 1) if you do just the intake now and the cam later, you'll be able to attest to the individual gains from the intake and cam, and 2) the intake removal/install goes 3 times faster the second time around, so it won't be as big a pain in the *** when you DO the cam. With that said, I'll abstain from this poll.

If you already have the cam I think you should do it. If you have to buy the cam I think I would wait on the cam til I got a new motor. Yours did have high mileage right? It would also depend on how fast the miles are going on. If it's got like 150K but you only put 10K on a year, I'd probably do it then too. If the motor seems healthy and everything.
Taz, as much as Id love to see how much the cam will give on a stock top end, if you put that manifold on with stock cam/heads you'll pick up maybe .1 and you'll feel like you've wasted your time. Plus you're puttin headders on, so that'll skew your results. Drop the pan, take the timing cover (166k miles? eek, might wanna change that chain 
) and pull that old cam (then do the traditional old part throw ... ohh almost a javalin effect with a cam...) and throw the new one in. You'll kick yourself if you dont.
