maybe should of listened to tas

Tas threw some ideas at me to get some more power out of my tbi unit. Still i decided to switch over to TPI. So far after 3 days of work i have the intake off and the plastic air cleaner box installed. . Talk about issues . I have been pulling out my hair for three days now. There is alot of work that goes into this. Luckily i have a donor car. I guess i should have gagged a 305 wiring harness instead of one off of an 350 iroc, but i think i finally have everything figured out and in the long run i am sure it will be worth it. After this, it better be.

Oh I dunno, does gaining 30 HP and 65 TQ at the rear wheels sound worth it? How about running 13.94 @ 98 MPH ? Thats what my dad did after converting is 305 TBI over to TPI, with an LT1 cam.

Its the cam man. You can gain almost 50hp at the flwheel with 20ft-lbs of torque. Oh yeah and replacing the old, tired fuel pump will give u the extra hp, especially at the higher RPM's

Was anything done to the heads?

10 Rwhp? and the driveshaft was changed to aluminum? That turned out to be miniscule. It seems from the looks of the torque increase that the TBI heads seem to work well with the TPI intake system.

This is my last and final hurdle........Anyone have a clue on this one?.... The injection system i took this from was off an 89, 350 IROC automatic... It has a hole in the base which looks like the 9th injector (cold start injector) would fit in there. But i can't find anything on the fuel rail indicating that this has a 9 th injector. And i thought i read somewhere that in in 89' they did away with the cold start injector. Is this the cold start injector?..... and if it isn't is there just a plug that goes into that hole?.... I asked the kid i got it from and he said he took it off about 6 months ago and doesn't remember....Any help???

I was just about to post the same question. I start my TPI swap this weekend, and I just noticed that hole. I did get what looks like the cold start injector. (got my setup off of an 88 for my 89).

Interesting...

I posted this the other day actually hoping a lot of folks would check out the link I discovered!
This is very informative about the EFI systems in our cars. Not just TPI.

I thought you all would like to read this, it's pretty informative all around. Maybe all the boards should see this one.
http://www.fuelinjection.com/portinj.html
I read it and found it very interesting.

And no, it is not strictly about TPI.

I hope it helps answer some questions!

Several modifications have been made to the TPI system introduced in 1985. The 1985 system used a GM Part #1226870 ECM and had a Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and a MAFS module to control the power and burnoff functions for the MAFS. In 1986 two relays replaced the MAFS module and the Electronic Control Module (ECM) was changed to a GM part #1227165. In 1989 the cold start injector was deleted from the system.
Thanks snowdog......i think i got my answer right there...:lala: :lala: :lala: Thanks a ton!!!:hail:
