Air Injection Relocation
I'm trying to figure out what to do with my Smog junk to get it out of the way. I'm going to keep it, I just want to move it. I saw a picture on here once where someone relocated their stuff to another place in the engine compartment.
My question is has anybody done this? What kind of hose do you think I could use to move it further away from the stock location?
Edit: This is a picture of what I am talking about.

Mainly for appearance. I want to be able to see my chrome valve covers and my headers when I get them installed. I also want some more clearance for my plug wire looms I have on the way. After this summer My engine will be to pretty to hide under smog stuff.
I figure it doesn't matter where it goes as long as it's still hooked up, right? All I need to do is get longer hoses, and bend me a piece of sheet metal for a bracket and I'll have it, assuming the electrical plugs will reach.

On the serpentine air pumps, there's a hard metal tube that runs from the smog pump to the diverter valve, which basically serves as the whole thing's "bracket". I believe you can take the nipple off of an older (87-older) air pump and it will bolt right in place of the metal tube. That should let you use rubber hose. The older smog pumps had a rubber hose instead of a hard metal tube because the pump had to be movable in order to adjust/replace the belt. Then, like you said, fab up a bracket for it, or you may even be able to just use an older-style diverter valve (the valve itself or just it's bracket adapted to work with your newer-style valve).

I noticed you have air conditioning.. If you didn't here is where i could have gone.. I made a bracket and hung mine off the end of the interior fan box, as seen in the larger image. The smaller image shows the tube I used to get the air to the diverter. It's the flexible tube found on 2.8 MPI engines found on our cars. one end of this tube fits the air pump. the other is cut off.. I also hacked a section off the original diverter tube. so that it could still bolt up to it.

Some of us would like to move the smog equipment for a L69 dual snorkel or custom Ram Airbox setup since so many "tree huggers" think they have the right to tell us what we can do to OUR cars.

I agree, Indiana is way to cold. Expecting 90 here in PHX on Sunday.
I have ordered a new the air injection valve brace/pipe from the local Chevy dealer ($18) and will be manipulating it so that my dual snorkel will fit. I think if I can move it down about 1-1 1/2 inches from where it is, it will fit under the passenger side snorkel. However I do like the idea of putting it on the blower box and may go with that if plan A does not work. Should have it all done by next week end. Only had 1 day off this month so I am a little behing schedule. Can't wait to get it done and get a few pics on the site.

You guys are making this out to be more complicated than it has to be. In my eyes there are only 2 practical options...either remove the smog stuff completely or do the following. Remove the unit and cut that metal pipe/bracket in half, 2 hose clamps and relocate it to wherever you feel like it. Depending on location you might have to get longer tubes from the air switch to the exhaust manifolds and cat tube. Honesly though, the tubes going to the passengers side exhaust manifold are doing nothing. The only purpose for the air injection is to warm up the o2 sensor, but if you haven't noticed, the o2 sensor is on the drivers side y-pipe! After the o2 sensor is warmed up the switch diverts all air into the cat to help burn up the hydrocarbons. This is kind of funny because I passed NJ emissions without EGR and without the air pump. Sure I was lucky to pass visual but the air pump is just a joke. It doesn't even do that well of a job at warming up the o2 sensor! The o2 sensor warms up in less than a minute on a cold startup yet the ecm doesn't actually look at the o2 (closed loop) for a while later.
Do what you will but I wouldn't spend much time/money on the air system.

I don't really have to have it for inspection I just want my car to stay as "green" as possible.

azvolfan, Keep us up to date. Sounds like you have it figured out. Although I do like JPrevost idea also. Post pics when you are able.

It's about 30 miles south of Atlanta. If you follow NASCAR, it's 10 miles east of Atlanta Motor Speedway. Nice area of town but growing VERY fast.
I've torn out all of that valving stuff and just ran a hose directly to the cat from the AIR pump. It gets air all of the time now. Haven't had any problems and it's a clean install.

I've been looking around the internet for ideas. I've found that some vehicles have electric smog pumps. Does anybody know which vehicles do?
i remember a long long time ago when i had all that crap on my car...what a waste of space not thats its all gone i just about have no trouble getting the pass side valve cover on/off...still doesnt like to go because of the wiring harness...i just got ahold of a performer manifold and 600cfm q-jet for free so i may be able to do away with the harness soon to

I'll probably end up taking it all off mine too. Maybe at some point in the future I'll put an electric one on there when I stumble upon it. I guess the converter and the EGR should do just fine at keeping it clean.
