cars running like crap
cars running like crap
ok its been 3 weeks since i have put the new engine in my car (see sig for specs),, it was running ok for a while,, but now it just runs like crap!!...well let me elaborate...the car runs fine when im just crusin around town and not beating on it really bad. but when i bring the RPMs up in 2nd and 3rd it will bog a little and shift funny if not at all. It will bog first,, then seem like its trying to deside what gear it wants to be in. so its like 2nd, 3rd, 2nd, 3rd then it will finaly change gears and run with a slight bog. My first thought was "my tranny is fuked up"...but now im starting to think it might be a air/fuel delivary problem...i have no idea what it is!! and dont know where to start looking.. someone please help!!
just some notes:
-stock CC carb
-adjusted the TV cable, but wont do it the way its supposed to, i had to adjust it one click at a time till i found what seemed to be the right setting.
-dual snorkle intake with K&N
-new oxygen sensor

Definately check the TV cable, one click at a time isn't going to get the best results.
Check for a dirty fuel filter.

how am i gonna check that when it wont adjust properly thoguh?? i wonder how hard it is to run a new one, or how much. the fuel filter was in good shape when we did the swap..i dont see how it could have gone bad,, but it is only like a buck or 2 to replace, so might as well do it. ANYTHING ELSE? i was thnikin about putting some of that "fuel injector/carb cleaner" stuff in my gas tank too.

One time my car was running rough when giving it gas, I replaced the fuel filter, like you said it was cheap. Turned out I had a burnt plug wire, but that should cause idle problems too.
About the TV cable, if you can't adjust it properly, either you're doing it wrong (which most likely isn't the case) or it's defective and needs replacing.

my problem was that it didn't want to rev past 3K. it would bog when you punched it. it was hitting the rev point where it should have been shifting, but didn't have enough left to finish the job. the result is that it wouldn't shift until i let up on the pedal a little which lowers the line pressure and allowed my tranny to shift. i have also heard people say that they think thier tranny was slipping when they were describing the same behavior. it turned out to be my cat was bad and causing a restriction that was noicable at higher rpms.

That's what I do to help my tranny shift better on the 1-2 let off the gas. But I know it's the tranny cause before I had my cat installed it did the same thing.
i dont have a cat, and when i do let of it will help it shift, but thats only when im in high rpms..still bogs though. im gonna replace the gas filter tonight, and put some carb cleaner in my gas tank. if i can find one,, ill try to replace the TV cable too,, but dont know about that one for sure.
