tall tale or truth
my friend always makes fun of me because i drive slow and never "get on it" when we are cruising around. he said its good for the car to floor it every once and a while. i personally cant see how hauling *** and shifting at around 5k can be good for a car, but maybe someone else could set me straight.

Babyin a car can be harmful too. Though ******* it all the time isn't the best. I hear carbon builds up with babying it.

my friend's dad was tellin me his uncle had a 60s camaro and complained about it not running well or some such problem, the [old geezer] uncle drove it very sedate, so my friend's dad and his brother took it out for a day and raced it around pretty good, said it ran perfect after they were done.
i think it's just like working out, you need to put the car through its full range of motion, like your muscles, to get optimum performance

When we first got our 91 RS, Mrs. ***** would baby the hell out of it. It started detonating and for like 4 monthes we couldnt figure what the hell was wrong with it, so I poured about 2 liters of water(not at the same time) into it and it ran good as hell. Carbon buildup is deadly.
yep... my mom drives so slow and will never "get on it" then after a long while its become's slugish... thats when my dad and i take it for a spin...!!!!
just like when going to shut the car down... I will sit in it for a min and get all my stuff gathered up... take the face off the cd palyer.... so on... the car idles for about 2 mins ... then i give it a rev to about 2 grand and let it shut down.... just kinda blows all the build up out!

Primer,
It is true that low load and "grandma" driving can contribute to valve deposits, carbon deposits in chambers, and sludge formation in the crankcase. All of this "get on it" theory is not a bad idea, but with some stipulations.
1. Make sure the fluids are all at correct levels and everything is operating correctly.
2. Pick a safe and sensible place to "get on it" before you do it. Typically, crowded streets are not a good idea.
3. And you don't have to nail it from a dead stop, waste your rear tires, and strain your driveline unnecessatily. You can achieve the same effect by flooring it from a rolling start at 20-30 MPH.
4. Finally, it is IMPERATIVE that the engine, transmission, and rear axle are fully warmed before you do this. Placing excessive load on a cold engine or driveline is just asking for problems, unless you like replacing bearings, rods, gears, etc.
If you haven't driven the car hard for a long time (a year or more), you might want to do this a week or so before you intend to change fluids, like oil, filter, trans oil, etc. What you break loose from higher pressures and oil flows will end up in the sump and filter, so you'll want to get it out of there after breaking it loose.
There is nothing wrong with driving sensibly and with a light foot, but constant light loading can have a down-side. Just vary the load periodically to fully exercise the engine, but only at the right place and time.

hey guys are u mostly driving in overdrive to save gas. Guys I just want to make sure, the D that is squared is overdrive right, which is 4thgear right. The D behind it is like the 1-3gears, and should be used for racing right. I just wanna save some gas guys.

When your driving below 40-45 on hilly roads drive stops the tranny from shifting back and forth. If you find you car is down shifting a lot then drive is better for that application. On flat road od works fine at those speeds. Od works best at about 50 and up from my exp. Thats when the extra shift is realy helping on gas by dropping the rpm.
