3qts oil gone in 1000 miles. No clue
I have been asking this ? numerous time and i've been trying everything and I cant find where my oil is going. First off. this started after a head cam swap. NO smoke what so ever. Tested valve guides they look ok. antifreeze looks perfect. Plugs are dark and white. (still messing with the prom) no leaks. Every 30 miles it goes down 1/4 qt. maybe intake gasket? How can i test fo rthat? Leakdown test?
Man that is alot of oil, If your motor did not use oil before i would look at the heads or the intake gaskets( what heads and intake gaskets did you go back with) I have seen intake gaskets not sealing properly cause oil consumption with little or no smoke to the sum of a qt every 600-700 miles.
did you have the heads milled and not the intake? if so you can get a gap at the bottom side of the intake and suck oil into the engine. along the same lines an intake gasket not sealing could allow oil to be sucked into a port.

To test if the intakes are sucking oil from under the manifold. Take your pcv valve out, plug the breather in the other valve cover, then put your thumb over the pcv hole. If you feel vacuum on the hole with the engine running you have an internal vacuum leak.

Well this is where my leak was.
It was the oil pressure switch above the oil filter. It was leaking oil from inside the switch and blowing it out past the weatherpack seal on the connector!
It was a good size leak, I'd say a quarter quart every week.
It was the original switch on my car, so if yours is old, maybe a good place to check.

OK Mkos. Then start the car. Put your hand or finger over the hole in the valve cover where the pcv use to be. Does it suck your hand to the valve cover? If so there is a vacuum leak inside your engine. Most likely the intake gaskets.
If it just kinda flutters in and out thats pretty normal.
