High RPM shifting - please take a look

98% of the time I drive my car like an old man. I usually shift from 1800 to 2000 rpms. My question is, will shifting the car at around 3000, be hard on the engine? For some reason, I feel guilty when I shift at higher rpms. Does this significantly shorten the life of the engine??

thanks for any info!

I also have a 5 speed and usaully shift at low rpm's most of the time. I don't think shifting at high rpm's hurt's. I shift at 6000 rpm every now and then.

Well I guess so.
There is nothing better than screaming up to redline as you fly past the girlies in their daddies convertible mustangs.

if you're trying to go from slow to fast in a short time you gotta shift high or you'll end up in fourth (auto) or fifth (manual) at 30-35mph instead of 70 or whatever. i've set my redline at 6k, i have a stock bottom end and build top end so i know it'll hold together. my peak hp is at 5k and so i made my shift point 5200 for when i go racing.

I hope you don't have TPI (stock form), cause you're wasting time shifting that late.

Shifting at 3k is not hard on the engine at all, in fact driving the car like an old lady can be just as bad on an engine.

Because carbon will build up in the engine making it run like crap, check out the post about Pouring Water in the Engine to clean it out posted by Hg.

The crank came out of a pro stock, stock car. My friend had the crank to 7200 with no problems. Im not really shure what it is, and the rods are out of the same car.
