Excuse my ignorance

I have a 85 tpi...when i was cleaning it today,I noticed under the air scoop,wasa a square plate welded on ..t had a bunch of numbers and letters....Is this supposed to be a back up vin or something?Im confused thanks

L-Hawk,

If the plate is attached to the radiator support, it is a data plate for the car, similar to the RPO label in the console or storage compartment. I thought those were no longer in use by 1985, but I've been wrong plenty of times before.
