Do I need carbon canister

I just bought a cold air intake which mounts where the carbon canister is. Do I need the carbon canister? Can I take it off without getting codes?

You won't get codes, but you need some way to vent the fuel tank without getting fumes. Can't just cap off the vent line.

There is a weatherpack plug (2-wire) on one of the valves on top of the charcoal canister. This is so the computer can control when the canister "purge" happens. If it's not plugged in I beleive you will get a check engine light. So..... I would say that the canister does not need to be there, but the plug needs to plug into the purge solenoid or the ECM will know there's something wrong. Not sure about this, but I believe so.

But it is not otherwise required for the engine to run correctly.

89, is that the SLP piece? I thought it came with enough hose to relocate the charcoal can.

i also asked this question when i ran an air hose thru the flat metal that the canister sits on, slp said leave it there and also leave the purge valve connected as well..............i removed em to work then just reconnected em.............the purge vlave is that black plastic ball under the fender well that looks like the ball in a toilet tank

It is an SLP set up that I bought used. I have no directions at all. I think I can relocate the canister on the same side just in towards the engine more if I make some brackets.???

yeah you can move it where ever you want just gota hook it back up thats all, i moved mine over a bit, if you notice theres a hole next to the horn that if you make a bit bigger is perfect for running a hose thru

Its not real important. If you want to remove it, jsut plug the vacuum line going to it, and take the vapor line and secure it somewhere away from any flame in the engine bay. You dont want a flame going down the vapor line to the gas tank.
