temperature

i have a 91 camaro z28 conv. its a 305 tpi / auto

the problem is, if it is a problem, going down the highway the temp stays around 150 to 175 (exactly between the 100 and 220 temps) and as soon as i get in a city, and i stop at like 2 red lights the temp shoots up to 220 very quick. i found a little hole about the size of a needle in the top front of my radiator. so i put some radiator sealant in and put more water in and the temp is still doing the same thing. its this temp normal? i just bought the car. i owned a 92 camaro rs and the temp never got that high so quick like that. what do ya'll think? is it normal? or am i over-reacting?

220* is normal for these cars, the fans don't come on till then, does it go any higher? Though it sounds like you might have a faulty temp gauge, are you running the stock stat, that is 195* so you're car shouldn't run colder than that once the car heats up.

its only went over 220 when the car is idling for a few minutes, but i guess thats correct then. i'm gonna get me a lower temp gauge and hook me up a switch so the fan will turn on sooner. i'd just rather be safe than sorry. but sounds like everything is normal then. so thanks

Big Mistake, putting in the sealant. Starts to clog radiator.

Don't freak out! How is the condition of the radiator? Just drain it, if the water is bad, don't if you don't need to!

the condition of the radiator is very good, other than that tiny little pin hole, the radiator looks brand new. i guess i can drain the water and put some new antifreeze and water in it and put some jb weld on the hole. think that would work?

Well is the leak fix? If so leave it! And just let it be.
If not drain it and fix the leak and refill! Oh and a bottle of wetter fluid(I think thats what its called) pink stuff!
