Pasenger side Temp sensor

Is the passenger side temp sensor strictly used to activate the passenger side electric fan or does it send vital ifo to the ECM to help with engine management? The reason I ask is because I have never seen my passenger side fan activate(even when engine temp is above 220), it is working though( I switched wires around and it came on). I am having a problem with a bad miss once the engine warms up( I have replaced so many things with no real results) and I'm wondering if the ecm is getting enough input about engine temp. The temp sensor in question is new, however the harness connector disintegrated when I pulled it off last year and I had to wire a new connector into the harness. I'm not sure that it is working now. I'm wondering if this could be contributing to my engine stumble?

The passenger side sensor is only used for a fanswitch, when temps get way high (about 240*F).

There is no info from this sensor that affects anything but the 2ndry fan control.
