Vette L98s

I really really want Trick Flows but $$$ is a problem because I am a student & can't really justify spend $1000 heads to myself right now. My only cheap alt. to get decent aluminum heads is to go w/ the Vette L98s, but w/ stock a bottom end will the added compression damage my rotating assembly? I heard that going from 64cc to 58cc will increase compression by like .3 to .4 at most is this correct? If I got thicker(.41" head gaskets, I believe) counteract the smaller combustion chamber enough so that compession is as close to stock as possible?

Thanks,

-Timbo-

First off higher compression doesnt usually have any effect on your rods and crank.

Couple things to be aware of, the comrpession will raise, but the aluminum disapates heat better so, a bump in compression is a good idea to maintain thermal efficiency. The also have no egr provisions like the iron camaro l98 heads.

Just get the heads, and use a normal gasket dont worry about your rorating assembly. Also ported l98 heads are excelletn performers, easily out flow edelbrock heads.

Since you on a budget have you considered porting your stock heads? Do you really need aluminum. Porting kit is 40 bucks, a good deal better than 400 for l98 heads. And you'll get better flow.

The difference in the CC's with the iron and alum L98 heads is to make up for the heat dissipation. 64cc iron and 58cc aluminum.

L98 heads are ok, they still have pushrod clearances and poor exhaust line of sight so they wont give big power increases. If you're already dumping your EGR, why not opt for Iron Vortecs? They'll always outflow the L98 heads and they have better efficieny characteristics that will make more power. Sure they're Iron but for the same price of used L98s you get brand new heads.....

If you do decide on L98 aluminum, then keep in mind that some headers wont work with the angle plugs.
