You can get carbed 454s up to 86. But usually not in short beds. More likely to find BBs in 1/2 tons the older you go.

I think they put 427s in 65 & 66 trux but they are almost all longbeds and 4x4s, not a very high % of shortbeds made from 60-87 trucks, but most BB in trucks post- early 70s were in 3/4 ton & heavier trucks. Hope that helps you a little more.

The only shortbeds I know of are the 70-72 Cheyenne Supers, they came with 402's under the hood as optional equipment.

Also, 1990-1993 had the 454SS.

I saw a 72 Cheyenne Super that was restored to factory specs with 402ci BBC one time. They are sharp trucks, but can command major coin when restored.

To find a 454SS, you'll need some major coin also.

The engine options especially in trucks was pretty confusing through the mid-late 70's and early 80's. Basically in most cases the 454 was only available in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks, no 1/2 tons and when you come across a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, they're usually a long box. Some G20 and G30 vans came with 454's too, though fairly rare to come across (most were 350's).

Keep this in mind and happy hunting.
